RSD 2020

i used to like 11th Street first cause they opened an hour before Record City. Then onto RC. But 11th street stopped participating. We do Zia first now. It’s just bigger and they have the room to spread the stuff out more. RC cramps everyone into the same area

Did 11th a couple of times. I think the last time they did RSD they didn’t have anything we wanted. One year we were able to return a RSD boxset to 11th because it was overpriced by $20.
Haven't properly participated in RSD in 2 years. Mostly because there hasn’t been enough on the list to warrant getting up early and going out. I know Record City is small but there were never more than 15-20 people in line and you knew exactly where things would be placed. The only downside is that they don’t get everything. Zia usually gets everything and once they moved their store from Sahara to Rainbow, it seemed open up things a bit more.

Forgive me if this is a redundant post but for those only doing online, it looks like Turntable Lab is only doing online. So, that may be good if you don't want to compete with the hoi polloi who will be going in-store to your usual store of choice before they put them online.

It's funny, I'm listening to some of the things I'm interested in for RSD and actually talking myself out of buying things. Who the hell am I?

Spacehog and Magic Numbers being two of them.
I am not going to risk it but I would not be surprised if another standard reissue of Spacehog ends up being released something in the near future. $40 is steep.

I'm just not sure how much I love it or would play it. They're one of those bands I like the idea of, but when I listen I think it's missing something. And there are just so many other good things coming out right now. Would rather spend the money on the GBV and Yo La Tengo new reissues, or any of the Blue Note Tone Poets. Who knows what I'll do when it's sitting in front of me? 😂

I get it. Most people consider Spacehog a one hit wonder and $40 for “In The Meantime” is a lot. I had the CD in junior high and it got a lotta spins between me and my friends. I don’t listen to it nearly as often as I would any other of the stuff you named (I already have the GBV and YLT albums in my collection or pre-ordered) It is a nostalgia pick up (similar to the PUSA reissue earlier this year) I am sure I will listen to it a bit but will be happy with it just residing on my shelf as it tells a bit of my musical journey.

Totally get it, and I may still pick it up.

It's kind of a weird thing, this RSD. Feels like everything is older stuff I may want to pick up. Dr John, The Who, Elton John, Wipers, Al Green. Then some previously unknowns like Josefus, Gaston and Magnum. For sure grabbing the Surfer Blood, love that record. Then the jazz stuff I'll probably grab. The Ron Carter is excellent, been streaming that and digging it. Probably grab the Gene Russell, Charlie Parker. Maybe the Bob Evans, Thelonious Monk and Sun Ra box. Hooker n Heat sounds solid. And that Morby live will probably be great.

Yeah, or I may just not buy much of anything. Feel like it's going to be a total mood thing while there.

Yeah, I am just grabbing the things on RSD that I would be bummed if I missed out on (and the John Prine Box because when they reissue everything in the box it would end up costing me more to get each album individually than just grabbing the box for $80). I am trying not to FOMO purchase anything this year as those are usually the albums I regret the most.

I was considering Spacehog, but by the time it came to the second verse of “Space Is the Place,” I was all like, nope.

do to a certain.... ROTM choice... i will probably remove either team dresch (seems to be a regional exclusive thing anyway so i dunno if im even able to get it) or brittany howard from my list... still safe

I'm a lot more interested in the September and October drops, which is great because I've spent way too much on vinyl lately. I'm in for Bone and New Order as my only must haves. That clipping looks interesting but not at $55 for a double pic disc. I was gonna grab Gravediggaz too (and still might), but I listened to it again the other day and I didn't really like it as much as I had remembered. I'll probably grab Surfer Blood also if it's easy to find.

ok.. my definite buys are already set

denzel curry, charli xcx, team dresch, and billie eilish, getting brittany howard or refused would just be an nice extra for me but i probably wont do it.

october im going all in on city morgue and chief keef

i personally think allowing people to shop inside for only TWO minutes is wayy too short. other stores are having 15-minute sessions for customers instead, which i think is more reasonable

For me that's the most appealing factor. With store capacities ranging from 15-30 people and BM deciding to do it in groups of 1-5, a 15 minute max with a waitlist may take up half the morning. Ideally this will have people in and out fairly quickly. Assuming each site is organized well and staff are there to help and retrieve, if a person has a list it seems like it should be viable.

If each person got 15 minutes in this set-up I'd be sitting it out and trying my luck online.

(Edit: My assumption is that you get two minutes with the records and the necessary time to check out, gather your belongings, leave, etc. Given BM is only blocking off two hours for RSD only it may be the only viable way)
