September 2020 Challenge Thread- The Gav-La’s

I love this album. Does anyone know which release is the is the right one? I have the full, slightly ridiculous, complete digital sessions and have seen them 3 times in concert.... but nope, don't own the record. Thanks for any perspectives on OG vs. 2015 vs anything else. I checked Hoffman and couldn't find much helpful.... happy evening all.
I am like you. I have had the box set but only recently got this from @Sonicpharmacist. Even though it is a long album this 2015 version sounds good.

Day 11: “Judas!”.. Folky Acoustic stuff .. pipes, chunky jumpers and real ale etc ...

It may be Day 11 of the September 2020 Challenge, but it's day 3 of a power outage that's pretty ridiculous at this point. They should have rebuilt the entire fucking grid by now. But hey, battery's a wastin' and daylight's burnin', so let me get to the challenge.

Utah Phillips - Nobody Knows Me

Sept11.jpg

This is Utah's first album, from 1961. According to Wikipedia: Phillips "was an American labor organizer, folk singer, storyteller and poet. He described the struggles of labor unions and the power of direct action, self-identifying as an anarchist. He often promoted the Industrial Workers of the World in his music, actions and words."

He also was buds with Rosalie Sorrels, and her singing of his songs helped to put him on the map.

Anarchy rules, and if that ain't folk, well, yeah.

I PIFd this to @jamieanderson1968 because, while I adore this album, the vinyl is missing a track or two, so i find myself listening to the CD, I have both the 2 disc CD, and the 6 disc box set.

Day 7: “Mini Maxi“

One of the OG records I moved to Oregon with from Illinois, I probably came with around 100 packed in my car along with my DVD collection and pets. That was actually a nice 3 days of driving.

The Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band - Peyton On Patton

The Reverend Peyton is big into folk blues history and incredibly passionate about Charlie Patton, hence this record.

I mean, it's 'Electro-Phonically Recorded In Mono With One Microphone'! Even came with a bonus 78. The real deal.

Day 8: “Birmingham Beat”

Having to play catch-up was a bit difficult as the one I had planed was played by @Fleetwood-Matt - which isn't all that surprising.

Gotta fall back to these guys with this promo and alternate US title/tracklist - includes the Fleetwood Mac cover of "The Green Manalishi (With the Two-Pronged Crown)"

Inside Llewyn Davis: Original Soundtrack Recording (Nonesuch, 2013 First Pressing)

Perfect timing for today's challenge as I was streaming one of the tracks from this last night and decided to give the album a full spin today. Just a fantastic film with a killer soundtrack, Oscar Issac is a man of many talents!

Day 11: Folky acoustic stuff

SWW is a Michigan folk “supergroup” feat. May Erlewine, Lindsay Lou, and Rachael Davis. Fun factoid: Davis’ husband Dominic is childhood friends with Jack White and has been a regular bass player in White’s solo bands over the last decade or so.

Day 11: “Judas!”

While not completely acoustic, it does have most of the other prerequisite folk instruments...and sweaters.

Lindisfarne ‎– Fog On The Tyne
Elektra ‎– EKS-75021, 1972
