September 2020 Challenge Thread- The Gav-La’s

Day 11: “Judas!”.. Folky Acoustic stuff .. pipes, chunky jumpers and real ale etc ...

Flight of the Conchords - Flight of the Conchords

How about the group that called themselves "formerly New Zealand's fourth most popular guitar-based digi-bongo acapella-rap-funk-comedy folk duo?"

Courtney Marie Andrews - Honest Life

This is one of my favorite VMP exclusives, and probably the lowest number I have in my collection.

Hey man, I just want some muesli!

Playing catch-up this afternoon...
Day 9 - Yes but No
Mike and Lal Waterson - Bright Phoebus

I bought this blind because there was a lot of hype being put out by Domino. It was hailed as “the Sgt Peppers of the folk world”. I don’t know really what I expected, but I really don’t care for this album. I keep telling myself that I just don’t “get it”, but a small part of me wonders if it was just an epic troll job to pitch this record so hard. There is apparently some copyright dispute now so it’s OOP and banned from sale on discogs so I’m just holding onto it for collectibility.

Got some catching up to do

Day 9 - Yes but no but

Kacey Musgraves - Golden Hour

I've been having a hard time picking an album for this so I decided to interpret the theme differently. I picked an album that people seem to see as genius but I see as... well... shit lol. I'm sorry I really dont get the appeal of her or this album

Edit: ok I dont think its *complete* shit. There are moments like "oh what a world" that I find beautiful and "high horse" is a perfect pop country song. I just find the majority of it bland or forgettable, and the memorable moments are mainly memorable for making me cringe. "Space Cowboy" may be one of my least favorite songs period. I groan everytime I hear that chorus

Day 11: “Judas!”

While not completely acoustic, it does have most of the other prerequisite folk instruments...and sweaters.
