Day 3: “Power Trio”- play a record by a Three Piece.
Oh now this is a tough one as I really tend to get drawn to trios. Given that I'm trying to avoid ones I used last month (sorry Jenny Lewis and I'm With Her) and also trying to play items I haven't gotten to yet, I'm going to go with one of the very few (technical) imports I own. We can ignore I used selections from all three of the people in this three piece last month.
I heard Lucy Dacus for the first time at a Boston Calling after show and immediately fell in love with her music from the sprwaling Map on a Wall to the rocking I Don't Wanna Be Funny any more. I was happy with that for quite some time, and I was vaguely aware of her other projects but it never hit my radar. This was until I really gave a good listen to Phoebe Bridgers and she caught me HARD...and then Julien Baker did the same. So, not too surprisingly, that led to Boygenius.
It's a short taste that lends me some hope we'll get a true full length but for now, boygenius - Boygenius will have to do as a pretty brilliant six song set from three of the most promising indie artists on the planet (in my view). Given I am not made of money, the appropriate tri-color pressing is out of range, but the rather fetching LRSD red copy wasn't dramatically pricier than the normal version to get in. And its pretty and I'm superficial.
