Day 25 - “Once In A Lifetime”
Letting the days go by, water flowing underground.
Play an album/song that mentions a day of the week or references the passage of time.

The Velvet Underground - The Velvet Underground & Nico

“Sunday Morning” is one of the greatest album openers of all time IMO.

Screaming Trees - Change Has Come b/w Days / Time Speaks Her Golden Tongue b/w Flashes (2x7 Sub Pop 1989)

While Mark Lanegan does not speak highly of his Screaming Trees days (no pun intended) I am still a big fan, especially of this double 7in. Still with the Sub Pop Singles Club mailer.

Day 26 - “Television Man”
Television man made me what I am. People like to put the television down. But we are just good friends. (I'm a) television man.
Play an album with a song used on a TV show (either a theme song or tell us what show/scene it was used in).

Walter White checks out...

Day 24 - “Memories Can’t Wait”

Frank Sinatra - Frankie
20210925_223149.jpg

I'm not a big Sinatra fan by any means, but I was pretty excited to find this in my step-grandparents' collection when I inherited it. Felt like a good vintage Sinatra album to slip in the mix, and the records in their collection were immaculately kept. Out the gate this one has some crackle and pop, but the type that can add character to a record like this. Sadly, however, there are a couple of passages here with righteous skips, so the album seldom sees the platter - in fact, this is the first time since that first time.

Lee Morgan - The Sidewinder

The track “The Sidewinder” showed up during a scene in the show Better Call Saul. One of my favorite shows of all time.

The X-Files, S3E03, D.P.O.
The episode with Giovanni Ribbissi and Jack Black

This episode also has "Hey Man, Nice Shot" by Filter and "Ring the Bells" by James.

The Vandals track "Live Fast Diarrhea" ends the episode....and Giovanni Ribbissi's character wears a few different Vandals shirts through the episode.

David Bowie - Sound Vision b/w Sound and Vision (2013 remix) (2017)

Sadly Parlaphone stopped doing these Bowie picture disc 7 inches. I have about 8 now, with half having interesting b-sides (remixes, rare live versions) and don't sound terrible.

The remix of Sound and Vision is from 2013 and was commissioned for a Sony ad. I love this version. I remember first hearing it in a theatre, before World War Z I think. Seeing the ad on the big screen was pretty impressive, since that is what it was meant for, no tvs

Surprisingly, this is one of the few large scale uses of a Bowie song in an advert. The estate does allow the use of his songs in films and tv shows (how many times have you heard Starman in things involving astronauts?)

Fire up the wayback machine!

While “In the Air Tonight” is the iconic Phil Collins song forever linked to the show “Miami Vice”, “Take Me Home” from this album was featured on the episode “The Prodigal Son”.

Day 23 - “I, Zimbra”
E glassala tuffm I Zimbra.
Play an album with lyrics that make no sense, that are inscrutable or that are difficult to interpret.

Hocus Pocus by Focus
The 2:46 mark in the video below has some excellent eefing. Or is is scat? Either way, supremely disappointed that this over-priced RSD release of the song is edited...and so it doesn't include that part.
