September 2022 Vinyl Spin Challenge - 'Cause you can't, you won't, and you don't stop!

Day 16: “I want to say a little something that’s long overdue, the disrespect to women has got to be through”

There were a few different ways I could go with this, but I kept going back to the Ohana festival just over a year ago. Eddie Vedder curates it, the last day Pearl Jam headlined and the lineup had Yola, Jade Bird, Shovels & Rope, Mon LaFerte, and Brandi Carlile as well. Was an amazing day filled with female artists as a number of them noted in their sets, and Brandi really stole the show - She had her own set where she brought out Yola and Celisse, and then Matt Cameron and Mike McCready for a Soundgarden cover, and then joined Pearl Jam for Betterman. Was aware of her previously, but just blown away at how confident, comfortable, and giving she was on stage.

Brandi Carlile ~ by the way, I forgive you

Day 15: “A butterfly floats on the breeze of a sunlit day, as I feel this reality gently fade away. Riding on a thought to see where it’s from, gliding through a memory of a time yet to come”

This lovely album has a track called Black Butterfly. It also has a timeless feel. It’s nice to fade away into.

This line is for me, I’m pretty sure. My picks this month have been overwhelmingly male so far, up until now…

Playing some riot grrrl music because I am feeling punky today. How can you you not want to get up and growl with this track?

MCA & Burzootie - “Drum Machine” [12” Single]

I decided to play something Beasties related that maybe not everyone has in their collection, this is a Single that MCA released with DJ/Producer Burzootie back in 1985. I don’t believe it’s ever been officially released in any other format than vinyl or included on any Beastie Boys related comps. It definitely has a 1980s early hip-hop vibe to it a bit like Beastie Boys rapping over Afrika Bambattaa or Art Of Noise.

I wish I could have come up with something deeper for these lyrics...but it's been an emotionally taxing day. And spinning this album is rarely a bad choice anyway...so here we are.
