Television

Let to the game here. Anyone here watching the Winchesters? What are your thoughts on this show?

Started watching over the weekend and to me so far it's just mediocre.

Yes I loved the whole run of Atlanta. I pretty much expected the finale to be just another episode and it basically was. But I found the ending to be a bit more emotional than I expected. Not dramatically so, but there’s just a nice shot towards the end that made me feel good.

There wasn’t quite another show like this. I know viewership fell off this year, but for me it remained vital as ever.

This is catching me by surprise, but I'm having a ton of fun with Peacemaker. I'm only 3 episodes in but it had me howling several times already. Eagly is a hoot. The situations are bonkers. I think James Gunn gets me.

I should check that one out before my Crave dries up. I've heard good things.

This was my second favorite show of the year just behind Andor. So good.

I'm trying to think back, but a couple of the situations I saw so far had me laughing harder than I've had in a while. I'm about to sit down to catch the 4th episode right now.

That 2nd episode when he's breaking out of the building while taking the stack of records with him... pure gold.

I was dying at that part. So hilariously painful.

That this was my reminder that Atlanta is even still on, is indictative of how much it's hiatus made it fall off the cultural consciousness. Literally haven't seen anyone talk about it's last season besides this post (glad you're enjoying it tho, maybe one day I'll watch it all again and remember how exciting early-mid 2016 was).

S3 is excellent, S4 is incredible (just finished episode 8 of 10) and the episodes are still only 30 mins. It's also not plot driven at all.

I'd suggest just watching a recap and digging in.

I do think the big wave of adoration it had has subsided a lot because of how long it was off. And people weren’t that into the last season. But I think it’s great 🤷🏻‍♂️

It's hard to describe S3 as a comedy. It used modern socio-politics to mine surrealistic drama in a way that has more in common with Jordon Peele or the weirder sides of Louie than the show's own first season.

As somebody who found the piano episode near the end of S2 absolutely riveting and thinks Get Out is on the short list of best films from last decade, I adored (almost all of) it. But I can see how the path it chose is gonna alienate people who fell in love with a show they thought was something completely different. Or how certain white people may be made uncomfortable by it (in a way they don't enjoy).

8 episodes into S4 and I'd say it's less challenging but also more consistent. It retains ambition but the only stumble I can point to from my view is the Goofy Movie episode-- and I am clearly in the minority on that one if the AV Club and Vulture scores are anything to go off of.

I look forward to listening to the Ringer Prestige TV breakdown of it tomorrow (listening to Van Lathan talk about S4 has really helped me process certain anglew I miss as a white man) and then finishing it over the weekend.

It's damn close to cementing its spot in my top 10 TV shows of all-time.

I finished The Expanse!! It was wonderful and is one of my favorite scifi shows of all time, maybe even my top scifi show.

Next, y'all have got me interested to dig into Atlanta so I started season 1 episode 1 a couple nights ago.

I loved the Expanse! It sadly ended, but it felt like there was still so much more story to tell (and I guess there was since the books continue beyond the show). I'm just happy we got to have something like that at all.
