Television

Yeah, I binged it over the last 3 days and what a quality show. It’s almost surprising that something this well done could still come out of the Star Wars OP. Disney should let more auteurs like Tony Gilroy handle these series. I am gonna have to rewatch Michael Clayton soon.

They should get Alfonso Cuarón to do a series about Briggs Darklighter’s time training in the Imperial Academy. I would watch the shit out of that.

It's SO good. I've convinced some non Star Wars friends to watch it, can't wait to hear what they think.

So last night I was flipping around the television (I still have cable) and notice they were showing Andor ABC seems like a good way to promote Disney+, Andor, and fill gaps in their TV schedule. I wonder if this will happen more often in the future.

I started Severance the other night.

I liked it so far. I got through 2 episodes and then got tired and went to bed.

These first couple episodes reminded me a lot of Homecoming pacing wise.....at least season 1, I never watched season 2.

I also ordered the score from Mondo when it went up yesterday.

What TV shows from this year are the best you have seen? I'm trying to compile my own list, but I'm wondering what's out there that I may have missed. I've seen a lot of the big talked about shows (although I haven't gone back to finish The Bear after watching the first episode...I'll get to it eventually but it didn't grab me right away).

I was just talking with my brothers about this.

Better Call Saul
Andor
Yellowjackets (it came out in November of 2021 and ran into January)
Under The Banner Of Heaven
The Bear
Slow Horses
Gilded Age
Reacher
Severance
I Love That For You
The Rehearsal
Reservation Dogs
Rings of Power
House Of The Dragon
Barry
We Own This City
Winning Time
Abbott Elementary
Stranger Things

I haven’t started 1899 yet but I loved Dark and if close to as good as that I will probably me making room for that on my list as well.

I haven't been able to bring myself to start this one yet. I read the book a while back, but having spent the first 35ish years of my life being Mormon, it kinda hits close to home.
Yeah, I am not and have never been apart of the LDS but but from what I understand the showrunner was a lapse Mormon and he gets a lot of the details right. So if the book shook ya ya might wanna steer clear of the show but it’s an excellent cast and Andrew Garfield kills it in the the fictional/composite lead role.

TLK always has great lists, and I haven't watched all the ones he listed...so I'll pull a couple from his and add a couple.

These were fantastic
Barry
Better Call Saul
Reservation Dogs
Severance

These were pretty good
The Bear
The Old Man
Stranger Things
House of the Dragon

I stalled out on these
White Lotus Season 2
We Own this City
Station Eleven (I started it pretty soon after I finished the book, maybe that's why)

I keep thinking we can cancel Netflix but I am intrigued by 1899, so maybe we'll delay. We're currently on a Severance re-watch but this one might take over.

There are some here I need to catch up on. For instance, I haven’t watched Andor yet except the first episode. And I forgot about Under The Banner of Heaven, but I wanted to watch it. Also Rings Of Power…I was waiting for a good chunk of time to watch it all, so that’ll happen soon. I also just started 1899. Dark was great, so I’m excited to see what they do with this one.

I did watch all of Station zeal even and liked it a bit, but I read the book a few months back and liked it a lot more. Barry, Better Call Saul, and Severance are all on my own list for sure. And I have enjoyed House of the Dragon but I haven’t finished it yet. I look forward to The White Lotus every week, but I don’t know that I love love it.

The Sandman
Andor
Reservation Dogs
House of The Dragon

did the unthinkable and finished The Walking Dead.
Didn't see anyone else mention the series finale so I'm guessing I'm alone in this. If you didn't finish and are thinking of catching up and you're not close, I wouldn't recommend it... I was hoping it'll give a definitive ending b/c all the time invested into it but really the last episode is just setting up all the spinoffs - which I don't think I'm going to get into.
