The Emmy Noms for 2023…
Here are this year’s Emmy nominees.

I am good with most of these. Barry and The Bear as “comedy” seems off but they straddle the line so well and I am sure Secession is likely gonna destroy everything in its wake in the drama category (bummer for Better Call Saul). Jeremy Allan White is excellent in The Bear but is by far the least comedic portrayal in the entire series. The Emmy Noms for 2023…

There are so many dark comedies on that list, I'm just happy they can get recognition somewhere. If it were me, I'd give it to Barry. The last season was excellent. Succession and White Lotus will probably wipe again, and I won't be mad about that. Would be happy if Better Call Saul can eek out a single win.I am good with most of these. Completely agree. They need to do away with the whole drama/comedy categories. It really should be long form (avg length of season ep is more than 40min) or short form (less than 40min)
I generally agree, though I think it's a bit like the idea of consolidating gendered categories: while an equitable ceremony would do a lot for the industry I think it's just impossible to put the toothpaste back in the tube and drastically reduce the number of awards given/received.They need to do away with the whole drama/comedy categories. But it would be the same number of awards just different titles. To me the drama/comedy category split still panders to the big networks which has to have things in nice neat boxes.I generally agree, though I think it's a bit like the idea of consolidating gendered categories: while an equitable ceremony would do a lot for the industry I think it's just impossible to put the toothpaste back in the tube and drastically reduce the number of awards given/received.
Ah, I didn't see the distinction you laid out.But it would be the same number of awards just different titles. To me the drama/comedy category split still panders to the big networks which has to have things in nice neat boxes.
I share your same issue with the gender categories though. Ideally we would just recognize the best actor (regardless of gender) per category but it would essentially halve the awards and I have zero faith that the voting bodies would nominate an appropriate amount of none male actors to account for this change. The issues with representation have slightly improved recently but the industry is still systemically tilted in favor of white cis gendered straight men.Ah, I didn't see the distinction you laid out.
I don't imagine I'll see a better episode of TV this year. Jamie Lee Curtis has a 2024 Emmy wrapped up as well.Watched the Fishes ep of The Bear last night. Wow. If you have not watched it yet, be prepared for a stressful episode with several gut punches.
STBY felt like if Donald Glover wrote an episode of Severance in the styling of Atlanta. With that said, I loved it if only for Lakeith.Got to the end of I’m a Virgo today. I think I liked it more than Sorry to Bother You (which I thought was super uneven), though I think Boots Reilly’s messier impulses still rear their heads. Gotta celebrate anything that’s going to be unabashedly weird and unabashedly black.
I purchased it a while back when Apple TV had an awesome sale on the complete series of Mad Men for $14.99I had been watching Mad Men (yet again) late night before I go to bed. It's on Prime, but bounced to a service called FreeVee. There were a few commercial breaks but I was ok with it. Now it changed overnight and to watch it I'm being prompted to sign up for AMC+
I guess FreeVee tanked?
Anyway, I switched to Deadwood.
I think it’s still available for a very reasonable price or $34.99 for the entire series and obviously it’s Ad free and you don’t have to worry about chasing it from platform to platform.Mad Men is a top 5 all time favorite TV Show for me, one that I have rewatched in its entirety on multiple occasions. I just saw someone post this one Reddit and figured I would share here; I the US right now you can purchase the entire series via iTunes for $14.99…

Just finished Leviathan falls and the books are great to the very end. Book 6 gets you to the end of the tv show, whole the last 3 books are set about 30 years after the TV show and tell another different story arc for the crewif the rociJust started reading the books... man do they suck you right in. I'm about done Leviathan Wakes - but it's amazing how well they did translating all this into TV. There are some differences, but not that many. Bringing Avarsarala right into Season 1 was an excellent move for TV. Anyway, I'm really enjoying reliving this in a different way.
