Television

This seems to be a problem with a lot of shows for me lately. But I've been watching so many foreign language shows lately with odd translation choices that I'm getting used to it in English shows too. It's forgivable with transitions, but I think there's a ton of bad writing and rushed production being done.
gone are the days of Mad Men’s glorious dialogue.

Actually, I really liked Station Eleven on that front.

Finally started Silo. Impressions after the first episode are that I'm intrigued by the premise but the script is, uh, kinda mediocre?

Very excited to re-subscribe to Hulu in a month or two and binge The Bear S2 and Only Murders S3.
Silo has a really interesting premise, but yeah as I've made my way into the season (almost finished). There are some issues with the writing, acting, and pacing. The book keeps it moving pretty nicely. I do enjoy the show, but I think it could be a lot better. Just hoping the next season steps it up a notch more.

My fiance and I have been re-watching Malcolm in the Middle and are about 5 episodes from finishing. I NEVER watched it live, however I watched episodes around the time it aired after school in syndication around 4/5pm when it aired. I thought for sure there'd have been one or two episodes I haven't seen but I really did see them all. I forgot how funny it is, it holds up pretty well almost 20 years later. Every character is hilarious but my favorites are Hal and Dewey. It is a great "throw on" show but also worthy of your full attention. If you're reading this and have never seen it, do yourself a favor.

The cold opens are so great. My all time favorite is in here, #11

Justified is back.
I'd just like to follow up on this and say, with one more episode to go, reports of Justified's return were highly exaggerated. This reboot has had such a strange tone. My favorite thing about the OG run was that while there were season-long arcs, each episode would usually be its own self-contained story, or follow a specific ancillary character who has a run-in with Raylan. There's none of that here; he's just driving around with a grimace while Boyd Holbrook splashes around in the river of ham.

Yeah, I miss Walton Goggins and Margot Martindale. Sure, part of OG Justified‘s charm was tied to Raylan having to round up knuckleheads but having a “big bad” being equally interesting and charismatic was a big part of the appeal as well. The “Oklahoma Wildman” is none of that. Just kind of a psychopath.

Heck, Jere Burns’s Wynn Duffy was more interesting than Holbrook.

Just finished up the limited true crime series Last Call on HBO. I do enjoy true crime, and i know for some people that's just not their thing. But this one is a really nice step away from the traditional true crime. Each episode focuses primarily on the victim of a serial killer who targeted gay men in New York in the 90s. You learn so much about them, but also the culture of the time, and how it all worked to push these cases back from gaining momentum. There is an actual reveal of who the serial killer was, which is nice to have considering how many unsolved murder documentaries there are out there. But that's almost besides the point here. It's so much more about the struggle of just trying to exist as an LGBTQ+ person - and trying to get the victim's stories told. Really well done, but it is very sad.

So only murders in a building we're all in agreement...they were cookies in the dressing room that shouldn't be there and Ben wrote fucking pig in lipstick out of self hate, right? Unless they have a twist I think they're trying to be clever in making the viewer think it's a person...but it's cookies

Seconded

Watched Muscles & Mayhem: An Unauthorized Story of American Gladiators. Loved that show and it was interesting to see what caused the downfall of the Gladiators and the show itself. Probably didn't need to be 5 episodes, but still worth the watch. Especially for the twist at the end.
I have the three part ESPN 30 for 30 about American Gladiators on my DVR. MaybeI will give that a go tonight.

I wasn’t aware that they did one. I might check that out for comparison.
I watched them both - I think the Netflix one was a bit better as it concentrates in the Gladiator be the ESPN doc that featured the "creator"
