Day 49 - ...and the shits keep coming!

I didn't particularly love Arcade Fire before the controversy and have even less of a reason to bother trying now. That said, this was the album of theirs I found myself most interested in. I've lived, worked, and travelled with many Arcade Fire fans through the years, so I've heard their music quite a bit for a band I could never get into. I never actively disliked them either at least. But something about the morning-after vibes of this one always felt more enjoyable for me than largely indifference toward the others. 3/5
i really like the first four albums, but haven't listened to any of them in years. the scandal made me go, huh, oh well especially since their last two albums sucked hard.

Maybe this is just me but it seems strange to me that I'm getting an album from 2017 at all. When was the 1001 Albums list originally made? Or is it something that's being updated regularly? If that's the case, is the generator pulling from every incarnation of the list or just the most recent one?

the book has been edited several times and things are added/removed. I don't think anyone knows which volume the generator is pulling from. That would require someone asking the developer dude or comparing the list...

Simple Minds -
New Gold Dream (81/82/83/84)

First time listening. Perhaps no instantly recognizable songs, but lush melodies, funky basslines, sweeping guitars and keyboards aplenty. Had an enjoyable time with it overall, but I'm unlikely to seek this out for more plays.

Personal highlights: "Promised You a Miracle," "Big Sleep," "New Gold Dream (81-82-83-84)"
Rating: 3/5 [Good]

Wilco -
Yankee Hotel Foxtrot

One of my top50 all time. You know what that means.
Indie rock landmark, in a genre that I have been growing more and more tired of as the years go on. This one has somehow, through thick and thin, stayed with me all these years later. I've never cared to listen to a different Wilco album.

Personal highlights: "Radio Cure," "War on War," "Jesus Etc.," "I'm the Man Who Loves You," and "Reservations" if I could only choose five!
Rating: 5/5 [Masterpiece]

And now - finally - today's album...

...which I haven't been able to listen to yet as it's not available on my streaming service. So I guess I'll be consulting YouTube for this one.
I kind of wish I could listen this without constant interruption from YouTube ad breaks, though honestly it doesn't sound like I'm missing much. I feel bad saying that after reading about the artist's very tragic death, but it's just not my thing. While mixing Latin music with electronica is an intriguing premise, the actual execution is pretty underwhelming. A few cool moments here and there, but too low-key and samey sounding for my tastes. It's a 2 for me.

The recording quality on this is not good. I suppose it's important for the style in '65? It has an edge to it that's semi-enjoyable, but lots of covers and while I can see it being influential, what it influenced is much better than this. 1.5/5
