if you like amadou & mariam i have to think you would like this, songhoy blues are also from mali and have similar instrumentation/sound with some of the tracks here being more rooted in the blues part of their sound (and name) than amadou & mariam. the brief bio i read about this band has them relocating to southern mali after the northern part of the country was overtaken by extremists (which is shown in a documentary called 'they will have to kill us first'), and they were part of a project that led them to working with damon albarn and nick zinner, and it's zinner that ended up producing this record and helping get them attention on a broader scale. it definitely is the blues tracks that stand out the most, with the opener soubour and mid-album track nick probably being the highlights. the record ends on mali, with the country's name repeated several times over an acoustic backing that, even though i don't know what the other words being sung mean, conveys the hope they have for their home country despite the circumstances.

Nirvana - MTV Unplugged in New York
220px-Nirvana_mtv_unplugged_in_new_york.png

I'll preface by saying that I am not a fan of live albums. All the versions of their material Nirvana performed here are just as good as their studio counterparts or better. The cover of Lead Belly's "Where Did You Sleep Last Night" is chilling.
This is an all time great live recording.

Personal highlights: "The Man Who Sold the World," "On a Plain," "Lake of Fire," "All Apologies," "Where Did You Sleep Last Night"... truly a legendary set.
Rating: 5/5 [Masterpiece]

If I felt like it, I could drop this to 4.5 with the rationale that the cover of Meat Puppets' "Oh Me" is not one I care for much at all. But I'll let it go this time.

Sebadoh -
Bubble and Scrape
220px-Bubbleandscrape.jpg

First time listening. Found myself enjoying a handful of the tracklist, but LOATHING much of it. Stronger lyrically than instrumentally. Yes, the wildly frenetic guitars and rhythm section can fluctuate on a dime, but it sounds very unpolished; the intentional lo-fi production is a turnoff.
A no for me.

Personal highlights: "Two Years Two Days," "Happily Divided," "Homemade"
Rating: 2/5 [Mediocre]

I think I'm nearing being done with slacker rock. I gave an honest effort, even with two Pavement LPs in my library. It's not the genre, it's me.

Ya can’t say you didn’t give it a fair shake.

I haven't listened to this one in a very long time. It's not even a top three Eminem album imo, so it's strange to me that it's on the list. It's well produced, but lyrically it's more about mainstreaming shock than it is about showcasing M's lyricism. It's not one I'll be likely to revisit again from his discography unless it's for a project like this. 2/5 now, because I don't like the content.

I'm curious what you'd put ahead of any of the first 3 albums?

Ugh, Eminem is a talented rapper for sure. I could go the rest of my life without listening to him.

The Byrds -
Younger Than Yesterday
220px-YoungerYesterdayCover.jpg

First time listening. A quick listen at just over 29min.
This is a good and consistent album. The Byrds combined country, psychedelic, rock, pop, and jazz into a profile all their own. There's a sophistication in their instrumental interplay that I find enjoyable. It sounds fairly simple at first but a closer listen reveals it to be pretty intricate.
Doesn't mean I'll revisit often.

Personal highlights: "Have You Seen Her Face," "Everybody's Been Burned," "My Back Pages"
Rating: 3/5 [Good]
