this album sounds like what i imagine a renaissance fair coffee house open mic night might feature. there's some lovely playing and it's a very welcoming record with primarily acoustic folk and jazz instrumentation, but it's also seemingly directionless at times with few hooks or choruses, and with five of its eight songs longer than five minutes it can be hard to maintain attention unless you're
really paying focus to the lyrics and story being told (and there's a LOT of lyrics, which aren't always easy to understand). also, van morrison obviously has a unique and impressive voice, but it's not one i enjoy all that much, even on his well known songs.
