The April 2023 Record Spin Challenge: "Want to go around again? I do."

April 20 - 420. Play an album to smoke a joint/bowl/bong/gravity bong to

When I was in high school, I had an art class first period. We always played records during class, it was usually Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon or Wish You Were Here, but students were encouraged to bring in their own records as well. I will never forget the day that some friends and I decided to get insanely high before school and my teacher sent me to the nurse. I was beyond wasted - they sent me home from school that day. I think it was probably a Wish You Were Here day, but this album fits better.

April 21 - Gateway Drugs: Shrooms. Play an album that either reminds you of nature, that you have tripped shrooms to, or that you'd play as a trip sitter for someone on shrooms.

Wax Mannequin – Have A New Name

I haven't done shrooms since before this album came out so I haven't actually tripped to this album, but I have definitely caught a few Wax Mannequin sets while trippin' the shrooms mightily and every one of them has been fantastic! I have also possibly joined him onstage while trippin' shrooms - but that is something I can neither confirm nor deny.

Just the right mix of organic earthiness and ethereal trippiness...

I don't know if I'll be able to catch up, but here we go.

April 9 - Rebirth. Play the album you would want to be playing during your birth in the soundtrack to your life, if you got to go around again.

Because the world is weird, let's make that clear right out of the gate.
And you should take your vitamins.

Can - Ege Bamyast

So last Saturday my wife and I took a little higher dose of shrooms than we previously had been taking; we crossed over from microdose to a trip. About midnight we brought our silliness inside from the bonfire, where I put on the aurora lights and spun Bonobo - Migration. It was absolutely perfect. Can recommend. I took this pic that night, knowing that I'd use it for this prompt.

April 22 - Gateway Drugs: Cocaine! Play an album that was made by a cokehead, that is about cocaine, or that reminds you of sleepless nights.

I don't own The Last Waltz on vinyl, so I went with a different The Band album. The amount of blow they did during that show is apparently legendary. Robbie and Neil didn't hide it well at all.

Black Sabbath "Vol. 4" (1972 WB Canadian 1st press)
Apparently, the band had a $75,000 coke budget in 1972. Plus the song "Snowblind", which was actually the title the band wanted for the record but the label was too nervous about that. The credits also have the line "We wish to thank the great COKE-cola."

The pile of coke emoji from yesterday's definitive audiophile recordings thread seems appropriate for here too.... ❄️ ❄️ 👃 ❄️ ❄️

I was thinking about spinning some Ozzy for today but I can’t top “Snowblind”.

Grandmaster and Melle Mel "White Lines (Don't Do It)" - first off I really enjoyed that this was credited to Grandmaster and Melle Mel not Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five or even just Melle Mel!! This is or was a pro coke song probably written on coke that they had to change to an anti coke song and that's why they added "don't do it!" This beat still goes!

Skipping ahead a few days, because this one fits with what I liked (still like) to listen on the car. I'll circle back later.
April 15 - First Car. Either play an album that mentions cars/transportation, or an album you would blast when driving your first car.

The Damned - Strawberries

“Cocaine was sprinkled over the albums, the videos and our lives.” - Ann Wilson

She’s referring to their albums in the 80s, but just look at that cover…
