The Beatles

Finished Get Back a couple of nights ago. Took my time over it, and I really enjoyed it. Had no idea that some of the recordings from the roof ended up on the album.

Where I do have a gap in my knowledge is what happened around Abbey Road. So, is the story that they listened to the original mixes of Let it Be, didn't like it, and they then went on to record and release Abbey Road, with LiB getting remixed and released by Spector? Am I missing something out?

Out of interest, are you just getting the original Monos on Discogs? I have my Mum's Please Please Me and With the Beatles (and Abbey Road) and I'm tempted to get originals of the rest. Not looking to break the bank, and happy to have a bit of crackle - VG or VG+ would do me. Any tips would be appreciated!
No just eBay U.K. , reading descriptions very, very carefully ! Great YouTube channel by Beatle Dave ...that’s been a great source of info to me ..he’s got a great collection

I’ve got a full run of stereo presses on those silver Parlophone labels , but fancied 60’s Mono’s too....(have the Mono box set from 2014)...but I like a challenge ...just completed getting a full se of 70’s Zeppelin presses which all smoke the last remasters imo ..just need 6 variations of in through the out door sleeves now!

I think we have similar obsessions! Fancy getting OG (pre-remasters) Zep as well. Think it could be relatively easy for some, not so for others.

Will keep an eye out on eBay. Might not get the whole back catalogue, but definitely Revolver.

The Get Back sessions were purely to prep a live concert and film a documentary of the work leading up to it. Going in, they had no songs, so the sessions were trying out a wide range of ideas, working some to completion, and leaving others incomplete. You can look at Get Back sessions as writing/rehersal sessions for Abbey Road, which is not far off the truth - after the rooftop concert, it was only a few weeks before they started work on Abbey Road. Virtually all the Abbey Road material was rehearsed in some form during the Get Back sessions.

Abbey Road was released before LIB, while the Beatles were still together.

But after they broke up, there was this pile of stuff from the Get Back sessions. After Glyn Johns tried several mixes, which in retrospect were very good and faithful to the material, the group rejected them, probably because no one was really in a good space at that point. Eventually, Lennon and Harrison dumped the whole load on Spector to make something out of it, which he did, as there was a film of the sessions coming out and they wanted an LP to cash in on.

Is there an actual true mono Yellow Submarine out there? That would be a unicorn! I hadn’t known of that at all, I knew that the tracks on side A had been mixed in mono because they are on Mono Masters but I thought the soundtrack songs on side B were only ever mixed in stereo! I suppose there could be a release that folds them down to mono but is never heard of it either!
You are correct , all Yellow Submarines monos are fold downs ...

Interesting..totally different title design. No parlophone ? What is this ..can’t see the MOFI banner ?

The brown banner at the top is the MoFi banner. It’s just not that clear because it’s brown, you will see if you zoom in. I now have 7 of the MoFi’s of the original stereo mixes with two more in the post on their way. Only four more to get the set…

Nice one ...love the fabs ...what a band

So I am still waiting for Rubber Soul to arrive from the states.

I sold a CD box set for a lot of money on cogs so I’ve put that and my savings from previous sales together to buy Please Please Me, A Hard Days Night and Revolver from Canada. That just leaves the expensive one, With The Beatles, to get of the MoFis and then Anthology 3 and 1’s.
