The Blue Note Thread

says google is processing but I was able to download it. Cute!
Go figure you name your dog Jazz and he becomes a fanatic. He reserves his howling for legit the best pieces of music, stone cold classics I can’t get him to shut up. He’s also got a thing for Bob Dylan, the second the first track on The Freewheelin Bob Dylan comes on he already knows and starts wigging out, hops on the couch and starts howling like a maniac 😂

I finally have a copy of One Flight Up TP coming. Had a little corner mark but got it for $22 shipped.

Just in time as it looks like Amz is finally sold out.

Agree with others, AT's drums on Tanya REALLY stands out perhaps at the expense of the piano at times but I enjoyed Side 1 tonight. Can't figure how this copy was a Amz return, seems perfect so far. Despite me hemming and hawing and nearly missing out, glad I got it to replace my pretty average RVG cd remaster.

Katanga is exactly why I'll buy pretty much anything the Tone Poet series puts out.

Preorders for the next two Tone Poets coming out August 6th are up on Blue Note's site. That Sonny Clark lineup is incredible.

I was just looking at My Conception last night while doing a deep dive into Paul Chambers' discography to put a playlist together for myself. Definitely a hot hot line-up on that one!

Think I may jump on Expansions, but My Conception didn't stand out as too remarkable of a session. Probably will pass on it.

Expansions is deadly. Essential.

My Conception sat on the shelf for 20 years for a reason. Not A level stuff. Looking back now, it isnt bad, but would not have made any impact if released back then, with all the fine recordings being issued then.

I listen to and trust the voices here, and still I am WOWed by Katanga!—thank you for motivating me to spin it! What amazing performances, and oh my, the sound. The liner notes on the insert really drive home the craziness of how unique this recording is for capturing these particular players, and how/why it is that they range from little known to completely obscure. Every instrument excels, but I’m going to go out on a limb and say that Wilson’s piano really rings the bell for me. (Next spin it’ll be Bolton’s trumpet, no, Amy’s sax, no....) Tone Poet rules.
Totally agree with you about Jack Wilson-- his album Something Personal is an absolutely amazing unsung gem. Like it still remains one of the best Blue Notes I've ever heard and I'm pretty far down the rabbit hole at this point. I mean, I love the vibes/piano combo, but the compositions are just fantastic and the playing is unreal. His next album Easterly Winds is good too, but then he sort of falls off after that. I don't really know what happened to him! Anyway, if you can find Something Personal, GET IT. I really hope they do a Tone Poet reissue at some point!

I thoroughly recommend The Jack Wilson Quartet Featuring Roy Ayers ‎– Call Me Jazz From The Penthouse. It was an RSD item last year but when they announced the change of dates and online-only, this was still released on the day which was originally going to be RSD. As a result, it kind of flew under the radar and I have only seen one other person post it on Instagram.

The session is really fantastic, incredible really.

Another one to check out. Thanks for putting it on the radar!

Highly agree on Something Personal. Grabbed a cheap copy somewhere a year or two ago and it’s a really great session.

I remember having this on my list and completely forgot about it for some reason (too many record store days was probably the reason)

edit - and Ebay offer is accepted

Just a collective thanks to those of you who talked up Katanga! so much. I was going to skip it bc I'm buying too many records, but I didn't thanks to discussion here and the Audiophile board.

I'm blown away by the music and sound. This is the essence of the Tone Poet series. A true gem resurrected in pristine format.

I initially decided to skip it just because I was not familiar with the artists and have to limit myself a little. Then I listen to that one and the witch doctor and decided I would pick it up later. But with all the talk around it I actually ordered it a couple days ago.
