The Blue Note Thread

Speaking of MMW. They're among my favorite bands, w/ Combustication highest on my want list. I don't have it on vinyl. If you have the BN 75th Anniversary or original vinyl, would you recommend? The limited Discogs reviews on the 75th aren't great (apparently bass distortion), and the only review of the original release is from 2012 and doesn't mention the pressing quality.

I have it and don’t hear any problems.

My Conception looks in stock in some places but delayed on Amz until Aug 30-Sept 6, unless they sold out of the initial allotment on preorder which seems unlikely ?

Needed to trim the collection a bit and decided to part with a few Tone Poets as I had purchased nearly all of them so far. It was really hard as even the ones I don't listen to as much I really, really like. Led me to question which ones were my actual favorites. So here is my top 5 (I think) -- very curious to see others' lists

Wayne Shorter- Ecetera
Andrew Hill- Passing Ships
Dexter Gordon- One Flight Up
Lee Morgan- Cornbread
Bobby Hutcherson- The Kicker

Grant Green - Nigeria
Chet Baker - Sings

Art Blakey - Roots & Herbs
Stanley Turrentine - That’s Where It’s At (not an obvious contender but it always finds its way to the table)

I hope they repress Nigeria, and Chet Sings, would like to have those very much as well as the Chick Corea and Cornbread, along with the BN Classic Real McCoy and Song For My Father, etc. :ROFLMAO: :)

My top 5 and I think I have seen all these still around online or at locals too!

Curtis Amy Katanga
Dexter Gordon One Flight Up
Paul Chambers Bass On Top
Baby Face Willette Face To Face
Tina Brooks Waiting Game

Waiting, not so patiently, for this one. Ever since leaving it sit in my cart until it was too late, it's been a constant regret.......and the Cogs prices just make it worse.

I bought this at the beginning of the pandemic...still waiting for shipping.

Also I bought the Uniqlo free for all and unit structures tees. Does it mean something the the Unit XL were sold out?

I saw a bunch of newly arrived copies of “The Cooker” at my local shop today. I see it’s now available at Amazon, too. So perhaps there is something to this repressing business…

I had to look high and low for a regularly-priced copy of “Nigeria”. Finally found one at a shop that did not sell online.

That seems to be back in stock in a few places now. Hopefully they reprint Cornbread, Chet Sings, and Nigeria as well. The Real McCoy went fast again at AS and is out but I see another store has a few (dm me if you need it).

My Top 5 would be:

Lee Morgan - Cornbread
Wayne Shorter - Etcetera
Babyface Willette - Face to Face
Grant Green - Born to be Blue
Herbie Hancock - My Point of View

But they're all excellent. I have 20 Tone Poets and the only one I think is good, not great, is The Prisoner.
