iPad route means you can only control the music from the physical iPad right?I am definitely considering going the iPad route in the future as well.

You can control the playback from an Apple Watch and I am pretty sure @Joe Mac is correct about the iPhone as wellYeah basically plug an iPad into the DAC by usb and use it as a controller and large display.
Although supposedly since iOS 16 you have been able to remotely control playback volume etc on an iPad from an iPhone.
So instead of buying the Node, I could have just bought an iPad and a DAC and called it a day?
Well yeah but your outlay would likely have been more for both, unless you were planning on buying a DAC irregardless.
Fuck….I didn’t think it through.
Same, I bought a Node back in 2020 then bought an iPad (work owns it) and realized it had a usb-c port which I could have used to connect either a dongle dac or better external and hooked that up to the amp.Fuck….I didn’t think it through.

My plan for next year is to put in built in bookshelves and cabinets in my living room. I will use a pair of Audioengine 5s that are sitting in my closet and pick up an external dac so I can connect the iPad whenever I want.
oooh thats goodBuilding-in the ipad too (with a way to get in there should the need arise) could be pretty cool as well.

What dongle DAC are you guys planning to use? Just curious. I have Helms I use with my stuff and quite like it for the price (I have one permanently attached to my laptop to use with my Meze 99's and another I keep with my Shure 425 case for taking along with the iphone, with the required adapters because my iphone is not usbc),
I still have and enjoy the Node with my main system.
I’m kinda lucky that my preamp/dac has a usb b input that is iOS compatible. I’d just be connecting to it.
I might be looking at the ifi portable DAC’s otherwise because they support the full 24/192 whereas the dragonfly’s only go to 24/96.
Similar setup as you. Helm on my laptop. Right now I am happy with the airpods with my iphone, but when my 15 comes in a few weeks, I will spend more time with the Helm on the phone. What dongle DAC are you guys planning to use?
