The Dark Side; Digital audio equipment recommendations and setup.

yeah, I figured I go ahead and pay for a year and if I use it as much as I suspect I will, I'll get a dedicated core and buy a lifetime membership.
I walked this same path. I should have done the lifetime membership to start. I think that totals out to about 5 years. Anyway, I am a happy Roon user. I was concerned when they got bought out by Harman a couple of years ago, but the software has remained stable and they have added some neat features with predefined EQ setting for different headphones and Arc continues to improve. I also, notice better sound quality when using Roon vs the native streaming app in my EverSolo A8.

I run my Roon core on a 2018 Mac mini. Works great.

It is definitely worth it if you subscribe to Tidal or Qobuz
I think if you're just using Tidal, Roon isn't worth the cost or extra program to connect and learn. Tidal Connect makes Roon fully duplicative for me. Roon starts to make sense for streaming services without a Connect feature, if you have local files, or you want to effectively use multiple streaming services at once.

I think at some point Qobuz will get on board with their own Connect app, and then Roon will have even less of a use case in my mind.

Has it actually come out on that? Last I saw they were looking for beta testers but then it all went quiet.
They’re currently still in beta. There may be some other manufacturers at this point. Qobuz club sponsored some beta on top of wiim but they are doing it through the VIP paywall and I ain’t paying to do social media with my streaming service.

This is what I did….but I think I got in with the $500 lifetime. Was very easy to set up a NUC with roon core as well. I’m somewhat good with computers but no expert and didn’t have any issues building the NUC and getting everything to work.

I think I have 2.5TB of ripped and downloaded files at this point, so Qobuz connect wont really affect how I listen to my library at all. I think if you have no downloaded files, roon is definitely overkill but it is very easy to use and really nice UI. I even tend to like their recommended music algorithm. Sometimes when an album is finished playing and I haven’t set up anything else in the queue, it plays some cool stuff.

damn. sorry it's been hard to set up! I'm on a mac and remember it being really easy to set it up as a network drive...i'll PM ya.
Finally figured it out by clicking around. You have to add it as a media server. I also changed a bunch of other settings so not sure I can nail it down, but at least it works now!

Edit: I can see the files but can't edit them. I'm thinking this must be impossible, lol. This is not new tech!

apple doesn't want to open up their software to anybody. Roon has supposedly tried to work with them and Apple won't agree to it.
I don’t necessarily think he was aiming that at Mac. Apple should one hundred percent pounce on that particular opportunity.
