The Good Ol' Grateful Thread

Anyone have FLACs or CDs of 4/8/78, specifically the Betty Cantor SDB reels? Would love to get these files (without having to stream the show).

Not sure if there are any GD archives around that allow free downloads of SDB shows in lossless formats
The Grateful Grabber extension for Chrome works well for downloading from Archive.org. That might help, although I think it's just MP3s.

I didn't buy a ticket today, but I think I'll take my chances on the aftermarket...maybe. The pit was entirely sold out when I got in to check out the prices. It's a bit pricey, but it should be worth it. I am hoping a friend can meet up with me there, but I don't want to buy us two tickets if he can't make it. Anyway...it's a long, long way away.

In other news, those live Bob Weir records this year are much better than I thought they'd be? I picked up a copy of vol. 2 and am spinning it now. It's real nice. This Eyes / What's Going On is fantastic.

Same on Tickets and Prices. Wasn't going to spend $100+ to sit in the nosebleeds of the Forum in LA, and honestly I think it was more a passing of the torch to go to the Fare Thee Well shows w/ Phil than to head up to SF to see the end of this iteration. At least at this point, maybe It'll be more manageable by the time the shows actually roll around.

I need to check out the new Bob records!

Was gonna try for SF (nothing but nosebleeds left for Saturday when I finally got through) but a friend snagged an extra 3 day for Boulder so I’ll just stick to the hometown shows.

Fare thee Well Chicago still stands as one of my favorite all time concert experiences. Showed up with no tickets and found my way in every night. 👆🏻

Yeah, I heard Vol. 2 playing at my local the other day and was very impressed. I added it to my pile and after I got home immediately ordered Vol. 1 off Discogs.the copy from my local came with a nice tote and poster too. So, it ends up being a 4xLP set for around $60. I think the part that sold me more than anything was the horn section and steel guitar. Both are elements that give these songs an added punch. Good stuff.

Never thought I'd see the day when the gatekeepers of indie snobbery would (favorably) review a GD spinoff project, but here we are...

On a whim, checked LA Forum presale today. 5 minutes after it started the only seats left were Official Platinum. Even the ones way in the back were going for $264 ea. I'll wait for the resale market and take my chances later.

Edited to add - a buddy sent me a text when he was checking prices for the same show, same seats have moved up to $330/ea. This dynamic pricing model sucks.

The versions of Ace on Dead.Net that were posted earlier are less expensive, but that might be mitigated by shipping if you are a member at VMP. I'd put it up there with Garcia self-titled as one of the better Grateful Dead albums that isn't a Grateful Dead titled album. Worth it for the studio version of Cassidy alone.

on the one hand, i don't actually have any of the "solo" records, and it's a classic, on the other hand...how often will i listen to this over say, a live show?
Not to stoke FOMO, but It’s one one my favorite Grateful Dead (or Dead Adjacent) proper albums. Its contains excellent studio cuts of “Playing With The Band”, “Mexicali Blues” and “One More Saturday Night”. I own an OG or I would pick it up (maybe not the VMP version).

Speaking of Dead Adjacent artists, I am sure a few of you fine folks are familiar with David Bromberg but I just discovered him personally a few weeks ago.

David’s backing band for this album from 1972, Demon In Disguise and it’s follow up, 1974s Wanted Dead or Alive both feature Jerry, Phil, Bill and Keith & Donna. This album features the track “Sharon” which, while awesome in it’s own right, was also the main Sample used by The Beasties Boys on the track “Johnny Ryrall” from their amazing album Paul’s Boutique.

I'll have to search it out. I get fascinated with some of these session artists that show up everywhere, the stories they must have.

Both albums are really good if a bit all over the place stylistically, lots of Folk, Bluegrass, and Blues influences which is probably while he got along so well with the Dead.

Best of all they don’t seem to be very popular at the moment so you can pick up a really nice copy of either for under $10. I haven’t picked up Wanted Dead Or Alive yet but it’s on my list.
