The Grammy Awards Thread

I love this Beyoncé album, but was really pulling for either Chappell or Charli. Just glad it wasn’t Taylor.

I thought Charli was clearly the best and I thought Chappell would have been an incredible winner. But Beyonce winning for her whole career feels so right!

Taylor did not deserve to be the first artist to win AOTY 4 times and I almost stopped blaring after that. If she was the first to win 5 times with another mediocre album I would have totally given up on the Grammys

My favorite was Chappell, I would have completely understood if it was Charli and I am happy for Beyoncé.

I would have kinda loved the pure chaos that either Andre 3000 or the Gen Z piano guy winning would have caused.

Sabrina and Billie would have been fine too ultimately though less inspired or chaotic.

and Swift was who I expected to win.

I like the Beyonce album because it was her trying something different and being rewarded. And it's not fake since she's from Texas. It really screamed something that would've come out of Houston. I would've been fine with Chappell but she won Best New Artist which is great. Sabrina got Best Pop. Charli not winning was more of the shock. I like Taylor Swift more than most on here but that album was a straight up terrible effort that needed someone to tell her no more while making it. It says something that our household of people who went to see her in concert and/or at the cinema listened to that album a grand sum total of one time. It was not great and they nominated her to get Swifties to tune in. The song writing was just bad.

BTW, how da fuk did Andre 3000 get a nom?

That album was rough but I’m sure voters saw his name and nominated him without listening to a second of it
There are a lot of people and a lot of musicians that love that record. The way Questlove talked about it in Hip Hop Is History has me thinking I should revisit it.

I reckon if they hadn't snubbed Bey so many times before, Charli would have been the obvious winner tonight. And it sucks for her a bit, I'm sure, that she's taking an L on the Grammys saving face for fucking up so much before this. But I wouldn't be surprised if she was also stoked for Bey's win.

And, all that said, this isn't nearly as egregious as the Oscars snubbing Ellen Burstyn for Julia Roberts 25 years ago.

Maybe if you like ambient flute music you can get something out of it. I don’t like to outright dismiss albums people may like but I find it to be a complete snooze feast. I don’t love jazz overall but even in that context I find it incredibly boring

The Grammys aren’t for issuing Pulitzers. The Grammys are for the most popular artists. Of course they’re gonna nominate Taylor, Eminem, Beyoncé and Eminem’s butt fungus (went gold brown last year).

I know most are sick to death of her, but I thought it was classy of Swift to toast Beyonce’s win with Jay Z. The only other one I thought might win was Charli. I like her, and there are songs on “brat” that I put on my 2024 favorites, but I honestly don’t think the album as a whole is all that great. I’m old though, so I’m certainly not the target demographic.

I listened to it a couple of times. It wasn’t boring but it didn’t set my world on fire or anything. Except for the fact that he’s getting love from actual jazz heads around here and low key getting roles that are not in bright neon lights on pretty substantial jazz records, I’d be cynical about it being his name too.

I may have had a certain wave of non-stop listening to it after it came out but honestly I didn't expect brat to win... It's too chaotic, its too vulnerable at times, it references an edgy right wing podcast, it might be a bit too much in it's intensity. At least it will best electronic album which tbf didn't have much competition from me because the only other album I heard that clicked there was porter Robinson and smile is more an indie pop album
