The May 2023 Record Spin Challenge: Silver Screen Edition

Day 2 - Goodfellas

Rooting for the bad guys....

They were really bad, but the "good" guy was a lot worse, and yet the ending still fit - until the unnecessary "3 From Hell" was made.

Day 3 - Blair Witch Project

"Oh my god, what the fuck is that? What the fuck is that?" - Heather Donahue and everyone after hearing Lars's snare.

As I've said in the past - this album has grown on me - it still sounds bad with that snare, but the songs themselves aren't all bad. St Anger and Sweet Amber are really good tracks. I also think they should release an audio only version of the Rehearsal DVD that was originally included with the CD. It's my favorite version of this album to listen to. I ripped it back in the day, but that hard drive is long gone.

Play something related to breakfast or hamburgers

I frequently stop by Carl Jr on the way home from work and pick up a Breakfast Burger - they are the best thing ever.

But I think Alan had a different kind of breakfast...

"Lawyers, Guns and Money" are what you need when experiencing an economic downturn, like when down on your luck hiding in Honduras because Russian gangsters are trying to recover a gambling debt incurred in Havana.

Paulie: [about Adrian] What's the story? What's happenin'? Ya really like her?
Rocky: Sure, I like her.
Paulie: I don't see it. What's the attraction?
Rocky: I don't know. Fills gaps, I guess.

A Man Needs A Maid certainly comes off chauvinistic and cold at first glance, but I think there is a deeper meaning where Neil struggled with emotionally distancing himself and compartmentalizing his relationships due to his success, but in the end the "when will I see you again..." refrain wins out in needing a real connection. And while it's been awhile since I've seen the movie, I think Rocky feels the same way, but isn't able to express it.

Sun Ra & His Arkestra – Strange Worlds In My Mind

"I Am Trying to Find Myself" in particular has Sun Ra looking to find trees as tall as he, which cannot bear roots in the city. Also, Roger the Shrubber is lamenting, and this collection of Space Poetry contains numerous laments.

Sun Ra – Singles Volume 2 (The Definitive 45s Collection 1962-1991)

This one was a bit tricky to find for a reasonable price for a while, as any copies I found for sale combined with exorbitant shipping to make the cost unreasonable. Thankfully, Strut repressed it recently and I was thusly able to complete my full discography of Strut-issued Sun Ra releases!

-M- "Je Dis Aime" (1999 Delabel; 2020 reissue)
Not really all that recent, but recent enough. Over the last few years, I tried to fill the gap of French language music in my collection, with artists from Québec and France. This late 90's -M- album was part of that endeavor.

My only breakfast related album was already played and I'm not sure if I have any hamburger ones. But this popped into my head as the only other album cover that features what could be a kind of 🍔.
