The May 2023 Record Spin Challenge: Silver Screen Edition

@LeeVing how are you uploading your pics?

I use imageshack to host, then link here. I've used it for years, so I didn't see that the move to AWS removed uploading image files. Which isn't surprising - hosting files like that gets expensive.

I have the $3.99 / month basic plan, but that allows the unlimited space so my images don't become dead years from now...it also allows for Direct Linking - which is also nice.

And even though I post the same link here and to the Hoffman forums, my Facebook, and Twitter - I haven't come up against any bandwidth issues to need any more than just the basic plan.

"Dear diary, my teen angst bullshit has a body count" - Veronica

White Zombie - Astro-Creep: 2000

I watched this for the first time over the weekend, and liked it a lot. Most those high school movies from that era are great, and this one adds a dark twist to it.
This album was more of a pre-teen angst album, but since it came up in my collection playthrough I'd figure it could fit in fine. My teenage angst albums were mostly Nu-metal and Eminem.

I'll have a good one for Pulp Fiction if I pick it up from the merch booth at a show on Wednesday night.

Day 6 - Part 2 - Airplane

Ted Striker: "Yes."
Old woman: "First time?"
Striker: "No, I've been nervous lots of times."

Even only being 43 seconds "Nervous Assistant" is one of my favorite Beastie Boys tracks.

Day 7 - Monty Python and the Holy Grail
"Oh, what sad times are these when passing ruffians can say `ni' at will to old ladies. ... There is a pestilence upon this land, nothing is sacred. Even those who arrange and design shrubberies are under considerable economic stress at this period in history." - Roger the Shrubber

I'll just go with this -

I had to make a note in my Discogs that this has a warp that I will need to fix someday. Side A isn't really playable, but it's a dish warp, so I think it will come out fine.

Play something related to plants

Roger the Shrubber meet Robert the Plant.
I played Houses of the Holy and planned on posting a pic of Plant in his Song Remains the Same fantasy, swinging a sword.

This isn't quite as fun without pics but we'll trudge on I suppose.

9 Wild at Heart

Gotta go with the fearless freaks today. I'd say this album was the last true wild and weird one from the Lips. Not to say that what followed wasn't brilliant, but there was a definite maturity that took place with Zaireeka / Soft Bulletin on, and a sonic change after Roland left.

Plus this one contains Lightning Strikes The Postman, which may be my favorite lips song period. Such a great build.

8 Rocky
Paulie: [about Adrian] What's the story? What's happenin'? Ya really like her?
Rocky: Sure, I like her.
Paulie: I don't see it. What's the attraction?
Rocky: I don't know. Fills gaps, I guess.

Play something that you recently bought that fills a gap in your collection

I played 'Hours...' by David Bowie. I recently bought the Brilliant Adventure boxset; that era Bowie was a huge gap in my collection.

Which, by the way was my first-ever listen to Hours. I bought that boxset because of the aforementioned gaps.
Honestly, I love it at first listen, can't wait to dive deeper.

This one was an early standout

Day 8 - Rocky

For some reason I never picked up a copy of this album until just a few months ago...I have the others - multiple copies of Doolittle - and a couple of the not really that good newer albums. I'm not sure how this fell through the cracks. I was going to pick up the Mofi release years ago, it was at a local store for years, but the next time I went in there it was gone.

Play something about deep, true love

One of my favorite albums and songs of the last few years. Just gorgeous guitar playing and harmonies.

Saw a ship sailin' on the big blue sea
She sailed as deep as, deep as she could be
But not so deep in, in love as I am
I cannot whether I, I sink or swim
