The National

A lot of $$$ for some shelf candy that likely ain’t getting listened but maybe one time.
I've listened to it three times all the way through. Also have listened to one disc maybe 7-8 times (when Matt finally breaks down singing it)

It's (I hate to describe it this way) a novelty. A ridiculously expensive novelty. I saw one in Princeton a couple years after it was released and seriously considered buying another copy. Kind of wish I had.

I get it. Some people buy 16” vinyl action figures on MF Doom for $300. To each their own. It would be a neat thing to own but sometimes I am fine not spending$1,000 on.

Yeah I don’t think I’ll ever own that at this rate
It was in the $250-$400 range pre covid. I was gonna buy another copy IF it dropped lower for my daughter. Never happened.

Similar to Pearl Jam's Benaroya - I bought it for $49 including shipping in 2004, almost passed because we were like "that's SO much money for records" When it spiked to the $600-$700 range, I was looking for one priced around $400ish and would have grabbed it. Never happened, just increased.

Even as a National superfan, no way would I spend $1k for it. Fortunate to have bought it when it was released. If I recall correctly, it was maybe $120 and my husband and friends all thought I was nuts to buy 9 albums with the same song.

Yeah if it were that price range I’d probably eventually grab it. But I’ll spin it once, maybe twice, and it’ll sit on my shelf. I’ve never actually listened to the whole concert/performance, I always wanted to wait if I ever owned the LPs to do that.

The difference is that Benny is enjoyable to listen to. I just spun the whole thing last weekend. Never gets old.

Got a Cherry Tree email about "last chance for sound check" bla bla bla... Looked at the dates and realized that my husband has a business trip to Wisconsin two days before the Madison show.... I could meet him in Milwaukee the night before the gig, we can drive to Madison and see the show. This might actually happen... though I really wanted to go see them in Portland on my bday.

Excited to finally see the bad (and the WoD) for the first time 2 days in a row next week. I hope there's a little variance in the set list each night. I didn't realize how early these shows are starting. I might miss the opener in Philly. Hopfully some posters will be left by the time I get there
Try to catch Lucius if you can - they are a fantastic live act!
