The NBA Thread

The Lakers and Raptors are are #1-2 favourite teams so, even though it would be better for the league if he stayed in Toronto, I would love if he went with the Lakers. Just no Clippers please!🤞
Everyone complains about parity in the NBA. Kawhi to the Lakers would be such a weak move. At least Kawhi to the clippers would be cool and have a good narrative all season.

Maybe for you and others, I just selfishly want the Lakers to win, but I would still be very happy if he stayed in TO. However, I hate the Clippers and Kawhi has been one of my favorite players for a while so him going there would be a worst-case scenario for me. I've never complained about parity and couldn't care less about the season's "narrative".

It makes the season not very fun if 3 of the top 5 guys in the league all go to the same team through a trade and free agency. It also tarnishes Bron's legacy a bit IMO...the idea that he needed to team up with 3 superstars in free agency multiple times to win championships.

KD would have been in the drivers seat had he been healthy because he's the better player. If healthy KD and Kyrie came to the Knicks, it would 100% have been KD's team, just like how the Cavs were Bron's team and not Kyrie's. The Nets are a win now team that proved they can win without a superstar player. Kyrie going to the Nets with KD out this year is more likely to go to the playoffs than the Knicks would be without healthy KD. The Knicks with only Kyrie probably wouldn't have made the playoffs this year. We are too early in transition. Nobody wanted to go to the Nets either 1 year into their rebuild. It makes a ton of sense to me...Had KD been healthy and wanted to go to the Knicks, Kyrie likely would have joined because the Knicks had enough assets to try to trade for a 3rd superstar or potentially run with the young squad for a year and they still would have made the playoffs in year 1 with KD healthy.

Knicks ownership is a laughing stock. You won't find me arguing with that. Their management is actually respected around the league believe it or not with Perry. Zach Lowe and others people who are plugged into the NBA have all said that players really don't care about Dolan one way or another. Players want to go to teams where the owners aren't afraid to open their checkbooks to help the team win. It's the only thing Dolan is good for. If the Thunder hadn't been so stingy that they didn't want to pay Harden the difference of 4 million or whatever it was, I doubt KD would have left.

Anywho, I'm not sure we'll ever agree on this and I know I'm more optimistic for the Knicks than anybody on here...but that's fine. I want Dolan to sell as much as the next Knicks fan. It isn't happening. In the meantime, I don't mind that we are now trying to build the right way and if we strike out on injured FA, it's fine.
It turns out that KD & Kyrie chose Brooklyn over the Knicks because Kyrie went to Harvard with Spencer Dinwiddie.

1 of the 3 will inevitably get hurt and I don't think they would be as dominant as that anyway, still plenty of other good to great teams. Don't care about Lebron, I barely even like him.

Yea--I saw that was a part of it. And again, Kyrie convinced KD. I also saw that they liked that Brooklyn was in NY but less covered by the media. Can't wait to see what happens when the media starts turning on them too. Shouldn't take long with Kyrie's "leadership" with KD out and the Knicks rebuilding...there are already NY media articles saying the Nets will not be good/championship contenders haha.

Kawhi just won with the Raptors which was a team of role players...you really think adding Bron and AD to a team with Kawhi won't dominate?

It depends a lot on who else they would sign, Raptors were very deep in my opinion and, again, injuries! There's no way those 3 play more than 50 games together.

They would get a bunch of people to sign for 1 year deals easily and they would still have a MLE I think so they could still add another mid level player who would likely take a pay cut. Even with "load management" they have potential to be a the best contender. Raps were deep but without Kawhi, they don't get to the finals.

They would be good for sure, I just don't think they would run away with the title, they'd probably find a way to mess it up. There would still be a bunch of other contenders.

Of course the Raps wouldn't have one without Kawhi, but I think the rest of their lineup is underestimated.

Agree on the Raps but Kawhi + Bron + AD + Kuzma + a bunch of role players is an improvement over the Raps lineup.

Sort of... and they would each probably take off 20 "load management" games anyway, which is basically the same as being injured.
Nobody takes load management games off in the playoffs and that's the only season that would matter for a Lebron/Kawhi/AD team.
