Sufijan Stevens - Illinois

Personal project's on pause again, but I can't do that with this one, so instead I fall behind!

I don't hate Sufjan and I don't hate this album, but I don't love it either. Probably one of the top 5, if not top 3, most played albums at the cafe I once called home, and not something I've ever had an interest in going out of my way to listen to since. But doing so wasn't an excruciating experience - it just wasn't an inspiring one either. (knowing I have Robbie Williams to "look forward to" next definitely doesn't help with feeling inspired) 3/5

Jorge Ben Jor - Africa Brasil

I had quit VMP when this was issued so I haven't heard the whole album before, and my knowledge of Jorge Ben (and latin music in general) mostly comes from David Byrnes (albeit great!) compilations. I enjoyed this very much, although I don't have the codes and parameters to judge its quality in its context and genre. Gets a bit samey towards the end, but all in all a pleasant listen. I especially dig the funk/soul/blaxploitation-vibes in Taj Mahal!

Radiohead - The Bends takes the crown with 5 stars. Casanova is joined by Robbie Williams at the bottom with 1.6

I still say 1.6 is too high for that Casanova bullshit. It is the least deserving album on the list so far. Even if I dislike the Robbie WIlliams, it was a moment in time and evidently massive.

I sometimes like reading through the general reviews, I don’t know why, there are some really knob heads out there, but this one of Robbie Williams made me chuckle:

“I’m not originally from the UK so I asked my wife what it is that I don’t get about this Robbie Williams album, it’s really shit. She answered, you’re not a middle age woman who wants to sleep with him”

Robbie Williams - Life Through a Lens

I should have known better than to start my day with this one... now I'm just grumpy. On the plus side, I guess: things can only improve from here!

Derivative, overproduced and very poorly written. I kept hoping for him to blow his voice right out on one of the many occasions he forces it so much. We could all be so lucky.

1/5

I'm surprised one of the fake Christian far right Republican assholes running for president hasn't co-opted "One of God's Better People" as a campaign slogan yet.

I don't know that I've ever heard as much unnatural forcing of the voice at every karaoke night I've been to, combined.

Bad Company

I'm sure I'd feel differently if I were born 10 years earlier but this doesn't do a whole heck of a lot for me. I don't hate it, but I don't see myself seeking it out much either. 2.5/5 (round down)
