Metallica - Master of Puppets

Choice entry point into their discography. Masterpiece of thrash metal. Crunchy, blistering riffage (at least for the time it was). "Orion" is one of my favorites.

I have no desire to listen to Metallica now, but I won't complain if it turns up on radio or a public gathering/place. That is to say, you'll never see a Metallica LP in my collection ever.

Rating: 5/5 [Masterpiece]

I always love the range on this album. It doesn't just bash you over the head with riffs and shredding. I'm a Ride the Lightning guy too but this is a close 2nd. Still a 5/5.

My favorite Metallica album is actually ”And Justice For All” (I will even debate it that the crappy production just makes it better), but yes, ”Master of Puppets” is their most influential album and their masterpiece. Essential to the evolution of heavy metal. 5 stars
I said this when I did my big listen though when 72 Seasons came out, And Justice’s biggest sin is the problem with all of their albums following it…. It’s too damn long. But yeah, it is also where their production took a bad turn.

A few years ago when Walmart did all the color re-issues I bought Right the Lightning through the Black Album. Surprisingly, And Justice for All was probably my least favorite to re-visit and I used to love that one. Partly due to production and partly due to it seeming a bit bloated.

I love Metal. lol. I’m still bummed that I didn’t actually get to see Sepultura years ago because the drummer had broken his legs.

This comment immediately sent my mind to this song.

It simultaneously has nothing to do with metal, is as metal as country is ever gonna be, and would make a great cover by a real metal band.

I don't reckon there's any Ryan Bingham on the list, so I'll offer a write-in candidate...

Sepultura - Roots

My 7-year-old son attended a Tool concert in utero, would fall asleep in the car to Fear Inoculum quite regularly at age 2 and was introduced to Slayer at age 3. For the past year or two, now, Sepultura has been his favourite metal band. Chaos A.D. is his favourite album, but "Roots Bloody Roots" is his favourite song.

That's some high-quality parenting right there.

I actually have no problem with it being bloated. I listen to it occasionally and it still gives me this great rush everytime I hear it. The strange production with Newstedts bass practically missing only makes it sound rawer and almost scary, as if they’re playing in a compression chamber or something. And I kinda enjoy that feeling.
