The Official Needles and Grooves 1001 Album Generator Project (aka Preachin’ about the Preachers if today’s selection sucks)

I just grab Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers debut album
One of my favorite things about The Strokes was they absolutely worshiped Bob Pollard and Guided By Voices even though their music has much more in common with Television, The Modern Lovers, and early Tom Petty, at the time Julian Casablanca swore they were ripping off GBV even though outside a bit vocally they really sounded nothing like em.

I am happy that I have the first 2 Strokes albums from VMP. Never need to spend another nickel on them
I have two copies of Is This It, one of each cover.

And while the first two are the only truly essential albums, every album since has had at least a couple gems on it. Just not enough to fill out a whole album. At this point I think they are all bored with the whole Strokes thing and have enough money to only really follow artistic endeavors that excite them.

The funny thing is being a somewhat “hip” music nerd, seeing these trust fund pretty boys on the cover of every music magazine with their immaculately disheveled hair and thrift store suits, I wanted to hate them so bad, I wanted them to just be a bunch of phonies riding the hype.

Then I heard “Last Nite” and my immediate reaction was letting out a resigned “fuck” as I knew even if all the manufactured hype was a put upon, these dudes were making the music I had been waiting for. The music was good which made the t much easier to buy into the hype moving forward.
I have the exact same story except I was 25 when it came and it was The Modern Age off the first ep that had me surrendering.

I still love this album to this day with all my heart and everything I hold dear. It’s fucking perfect.
