The Official Needles and Grooves 1001 Album Generator Project (aka Preachin’ about the Preachers if today’s selection sucks)

Growing up there was this family I knew from church who had a son around my age. He legit had a trash stash by the time he was 11, it was crazy. We weren't really good friends, but I always had fun hanging out with him. I think it was more that our parents weren't close and he didn't live that close why we didn't hang out much. But his dad took us to Monster Jam which was awesome. I don't remember much else about them, other than that the dad and son were both big fans of Todd Rundgren. Hearing it in their car was my first and really only exposure to his music growing up. I've tried dipping in every now and then over the years but little has stuck. I have to admit though that I'm really liking the first half of this album. I can see how it drags on for some, but I imagine if I had roasted a bowl and put on my headphones I'd be feeling it strong. Through the first 13 tracks I'll give it a 4. Curious to see where I end on the other side. I love the weirdness!

Todd Rundgren - Something / Anything?
I've seen the name a million times, and on pressing play I kind of recognize the voice, but I can't say I know much about Todd Rundgren at all. I am, however, put off by 1 hr 29 mins as a runtime, which is quite frankly bonkers.

He's got a good voice.

People have been saying this gets weird, where's the weird man?!

Okay, now things are getting weird!

Maybe gone too far into bizarre.

It's still going, and things haven't been that bad, to be honest. It's all a bit AOR middle of the road 70s soft-rock stuff, but then that is what it is.

And that's that.

Not terrible, but going by what else has been not terrible...

2 / 5 stars.

My thoughts on Something/Anything?:

A good album, and I like the concepts behind each side, but there's quite a bit of fat that should've been trimmed from it (namely the cerebral side and the half-baked story, overture & last two songs of the "operetta side"). It would've made for an even better album, though a more accessible listen too, which Todd wouldn't have gone for.

favs: Hello It's Me, Black Maria, I Saw the Light, Couldn't I Just Tell You, Dust In the Wind, It Wouldn't Have Made Any Difference
least favs: I Went to the Mirror, Breathless

I can appreciate a differing opinion and I don’t think you’re necessarily just being stingy or a contrarian with your ratings but as we are getting to know more about your musical taste, I was wondering if you’d be willing to share with us 5 albums that you do consider perfect, 5 stars?
I'll have a think about what those five might be.

If they're up to muster, will my scores stop being questioned ;)

[edit]

Alva Noto + Ryuichi Sakamoto - Vrioon
Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers - Moanin'
Cult Of Luna - The Beyond
Faultline - Closer Colder
Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures

Off the top of my head (or I cheated and looked at Discogs!)
