The Return of the Challenge Thread - February 2020

Interesting - RZA did do that project with Paul Banks of Interpol now that I think about it. Was he in the book in that context, or somehow else involved in that scene?
Nah, they just quote him for color about the New York music scene as a whole and how the late 90s, early 2000s NYC was dominated by hip-hop. Paul does discuss his love of rap music at one point though.

Day 12 - Very Instrumental
Spin an album without vocals

Less than a year ago I recorded Neal Casal and CATS in a tiny 300 capacity room. It was one of the most fun, positive, beautiful shows I've ever attended. A few weeks later, Neal took his own life. I'm still gutted.

Neal's last words to me - "Let's do this again sometime, shall we? Beautiful. Thank you very much."

As TLK said, it's only a couple of quotes.

Steve Reich - Four Organs/Phase Patterns

Terry Riley, Philip Glass, and Steve Reich are the holy trinity as far as I am concerned regarding modern avant-garde “Classical” music, I love the concept behind it all. Making rules then working around the given rules turning restriction into innovation. Four Organs is hypnotic and mesmerizing. As a piece of music that slowly morphs in ways that you don’t fully realize until after it happens. Brillant stuff.
