Day 7 - Goin’ Solo
Spin an album from artist that split from their band and released a killer Solo record

Jerry made this solo masterpiece, playing all the instruments besides the drums, in the early seventies. About half of these songs would find their way into the Dead’s setlists in the years following.

“All I know is something like a bird within her sang!”

There is an interesting copy of this with a giant red promo sticker covering the top 3rd of the album at one of my local shops that I have debated on purchasing a few times they want around $20 but it does have a cut corner. Love this album.

Day 7 - Goin’ Solo

The Brian May Band - Live At The Brixton Academy (Parlophone, 1994 First Pressing)

Tried to go for an obscure one for this day, and I'm hoping most people were unaware of May's solo career? It mainly consisted of him playing songs he wrote for Queen, with some changes to the arrangements. This is a killer live recording from Brixton, London. Just had a look at it appears to fetch a decent amount nowadays. This one was thrown into a bundle of Queen records I bought for a few quid years ago.

Day 7: Goin' Solo

Jeremy Enigk - Return of the Frog Queen

Profoundly weird solo debut from the lead singer of Sunny Day Real Estate written during their hiatus when they all started to hate each other and after Enigk announced he was a born again christian. I find Enigk to be the rare instance of actually getting better after publicly finding God. You can hear this album's influence all over SDRE's comeback How It Feels To Be Something On, which just so happens to be my favorite of theirs.

Also considered some Kurt Vile, Pusha T, or the Sadie Dupuis solo record here.

Day 8 - That Should Do It...
Spin a record that you’d play LOUD to piss off the neighbors

This is one of my favorite records from one of my favorite bands.

It's usually enough to play this one at low volume and piss people off but it really brings out the true identity of others at maximum crank. At the same time, how else should you listen to a record that sounds like The Beach Boys with black hearts and fuzz pedals recorded on a speeding locomotive with all the brakes locked down?

Day 8: That Should Do It...

I don't have real close neighbors to worry about with this house....but my previous house was that cookie-cutter, new construction sub-division where each house is about 6 feet from the other. Anything with volume vibrated the neighbors windows.

Being in the basement of this house at night I only have to worry about my wife and daughter sleeping upstairs...but the way the house is designed, it isn't a big deal. (see artist's rendering below)

My house is in the middle. There is an empty lot to the west and open land to the north. The close neighbor to the east isn't home too often...and isn't close enough to hear at the levels I play at.

Wait, I thought the west coast didn't have basements?

I have pretty decent neighbors, everybody pretty much keeps to themselves. However, I would spin this one loud if anyone ever pissed me off.
