DAY 15: No Coast

Playing this reminds me of the time I was called a "database thug" when people were removing the reissue tag for this release on Discogs.

I also thought he and his character of Leon on Mr. Robot were amazing.

I regretted selling this ...

Aes is a Pac Northwest transplant like myself and one of my favorite lyricists. I need to add more of his LPs to my collection.

DAY 16: How I Met Your Mother

The Beatles is probably the only band the 3 of us could agree on if needing to...which is why we listen to The Beatles channel in the car a lot when out driving.

DAY 16 – How I Met Your Mother
Spin something that your family made you love, or something that reminds you of them.

I grew up in the middle of nowhere, in a house surrounded by acres of grass that I had to mow. My brother hunts deer, too, so that also reminds me of them.

DAY 13 – I Hate It... But I Love It.

Play a guilty pleasure. Like, something you might hide from your friends before they come over.

Despite the TVZ For the sake of the song pennant, my friends and family would be surprised about me listening to country music. I have not spun this one in a while so ....

My Mom loves Elton John and anytime I hear John’s voice it reminds me of being a wee lad watching her turntable spin this and many other of his amazing LPs.

There were a number of albums I could’ve picked… I could have picked the Beach Boys because I dance to “God Only Knows“ with my mom at my wedding, but the truth is the reverse: I got my parents into Beach Boys. They didn’t really care for them until I started bringing home their cassettes from Caldor’s in the 80s.

I could’ve picked some super sweet opera which reminds me of my mom, but none of my opera is on vinyl.

But this album… I remember listening to this album with my dad in his car when I was a little kid. Hearing him talk about the production on “Open My Eyes” is one of the few times I can remember him being super animated and excited listening to music. It left a very deep impression on me.

This is an extremely timely post, as I am really missing seeing my family from the social distancing happening in Connecticut. I know it’s necessary, but I am just looking forward to hanging out with them again and them lighting up when they see their grandkids.

In the meantime, it’s time to make my daughter excited about the song “Open My Eyes.”

Van Morrison - Veedon Fleece

It was either gonna be Van or MBV as far as Irish artists go. This seemed more “Irish” is some vague inexplicable way. If nothing else it seems like the appropriate soundtrack to a night celebrating at home. Plus, it was green. Cheers and green watery domestic beer for all who want it!

There is a rich heritage of Irish influence in American old-time banjo and fiddle music and this 1981 compilation from Heritage Records is one of the best pieces of field-recorded evidence.

Within minutes of the first side, you will begin to taste moonshine in your mouth.

DAY 18 – Mouth Music/Beat-Box

Play something that features the human voice as a main instrument.

Maybe not beat-box, but Merrill Garbus has the most incredible vocal range! For her live performances, she samples herself singing and mixes them on stage for an awesome show.
