Toronto Weird Boys

If you're into record shopping as well, let us know and we'll compile a list.

Your best bet is to be around the Queen and Spadina area.

Anyone manage to see the Modest Mouse/Pixies show over the weekend?

Gotta say I was pretty impressed with the Pixies (having never seen them), despite the lack of Kim Deal. Modest Mouse was pretty good as well, but it was pretty embarrassing that it seemed 99% of the crowd was there to hear "Float On".

Also, they really did Cat Power dirty by having her come on almost right as doors opened, missed it entirely.

So you guys convinced us we should check out Little Canada. Reminds me of an attraction I saw as a kid in a Whitby Ontario park (like back in the early 80s). Is it related? We'll find some asian for lunch (likely ramen or korean, but it will depend on where we are when we get hungry).

Plus record stores, obviously. The spots around Queen & Spadina were plenty the last few years we did this. And whatever my daughter decides.

Cullen Gardens and Miniature Village.
That place was awesome, sadly though it was closed ages ago.

Ramen is so subjective. We really like Touhenboku which is usually a quieter spot and really decent: Touhenboku Ramen
I also think Kinton dropped their prices recently, but I haven't been since they rapidly expanded. These are options around Queen and Spadina. If you want to do Udon Raku is really good. They're a chain up from NYC and it's delicious.

For record shops, you definitely should drop by Sonic Boom, especially since they dropped the prices.
Around that area are Kops which is meh (prices are good, the layout is irritating as fuck), and Cosmos which is great for used first pressings/Japanese pressings etc. There's two locations for Cosmos within a couple of blocks of each other. The one further west is mostly Jazz, the one east has a lot of hip hop singles etc.

Play De Record is a pretty cool piece of Toronto history up Spadina if you've ever seen the documentary on Amazon. If you're into hip hop and electronic this is definitely the place to go.

If you don't mind venturing a bit further west I'd also suggest Rotate This, which is on Ossington which is also a really nice street. Little pricey (the neighbourhood, not the record shop) but one of my favourite streets in the city.

Seconding Rotate This. I don’t get over there much but always find stuff when I do

That’s the place in Whitby!

Cheers for the tips - Udon sounds good too. I’ll pin Raku in my options.

I did pop by Play De last year and spoke with Eugene a bit. Super nice guy. I had seen the doc a few months before - he was actually curious what I thought about it as an out of towner. Sonic will be a certain stop. I had good luck at Cosmos the last few times too.

Eugene is a really nice guy.
And I always have to give business to my Trini peeps.

my daughter couldn’t resist adding a green tea cheese cake. cool presentation. She doesn’t seem to be regretting it at all.

Fuck yeah, glad you liked it @Turbo! Hope you didn't have to line up for a long time, but being a weekday I figure you didn't. Had you gone on a Saturday that line gets up there.

Fun fact, cooked fish is rarely something I enjoy, and the last time I had something that looked like what you had I proceeded to gag for about five minutes at the table. Cold sushi or death for me.

EDIT: Oooh it's Makerel, yeah that definitely will not stay down.

This was the place I almost lost my lunch, if you're looking for sushi options at any point I'd still highly recommend: JaBistro - Artfully Prepared Sushi & Cocktails in Toronto, CA
