Vinyl Me Please Anthology

Hey man, if that poster got a good one, you can too. Christ if I had a different cart I might have a good one too! (Well except for the no fill and the warps and the scratches and all the other stuff..) Have faith, you might be all good! Look on the bright side, I've steeled you for the absolute worst case scenario, I mean what else could possibly go wro-WAIT DON'T ANSWER THAT
I'm sure that someone at distribution sees your name on a package, thinks 'there's that fucker with the 2m black again', unpackages some balls out pristine vinyl and then gets a load of goats and ferrets to piss on it party style before boxing it back up and shipping it off. It's the only reasonable explanation.

It also sounds like VMP may have got its entire box set quality shagging out of the way on two boxes. Yours and some dude who left a discog review for the set.

I just finally finished the Zamrock podcast (I know it's super late but I can't listen to podcasts at home, only when driving and the pandemic caused me to just start commuting again recently).

This podcast was really solid but what was with it not being aligned with the episodes? Kinda defeats the purpose. I understand if they set this and then the people hosting did in a different order (since it wasnt in house) but you'd think it would be simple to send a message with a revised album order. Even the Anthology page has Episode 3 (list with episode 4 albums) and Episode 4 (listen with Episode 3 albums) and that's not even completely right.

Minor nitpick, but I feel like somewhat important to the whole "Anthology" concept.

I still feel okay with the BN anthology price since they do sound fantastic and at least there’s a true exclusive in that one (for now). But yes—overall they have been very pricey compared to a lot of those other box sets. I really like the Day of the Dead box set and I paid $100 for it. I believe list price was $140 on it for 10LPs.

Which one's still exclusive-- the Wayne Shorter? Also Ambrose... I think Loud Donaldson wasn't reissued... Actually, which ones WERE reissued?

I agree with you though, that Blue Note box was by far the best of the bunch, despite all the hilarious problems they had.

Sweet Lou is still the only one I'm missing from my VmP BlUrNOwtE bOrX.

Well and the actual bOrX too.

I’m the unfortunate soul that has the bad set on discogs with the 5 defective records. I’ve emailed VMP on Saturday and as of yet no reply. It’s hugely disappointing and it’s certainly pointing towards a rush job between both VMP and QRP to get the sets out. But I’m not used to such poor quality. Mather has it right in regards to the noise, the crushed inner sleeves, the terribly non rounded records and the horrendously off centered labels. Mine didn’t come warped, but that seems to be the only issue I don’t have. It’s pretty sickening knowing other people are getting as of so far perfect sets while we have the worst luck. Oh and hear are the two worst culprits of the lovely label pressing:

get on the bloody chat thing with them !

I‘ll give them the benefit of the doubt (haha) and until the middle of the week, then I’ll go in hard!
Yeah I've already emailed in with videos and pics, nothing yet.
Now... I did just discover that my back up cleaning solution has developed that old cloudy mould thing that some of these do. So that probably didn't help with the clicks I'm hearing, but I also do a wash that should clear that up. But I used that solution up until this week on multiple other records that played perfectly clean so I don't think that's necessarily the issue with the noise, but it can't help. I'll be re cleaning these this week with new enzyme solution. But the no fill crackle, warps, off centre labels, gouged edges and crushed sleeves with the first tracks actually rubbing against the inside of the jacket obviously have nothing to do with my cleaning solution... I have noticed with these a lot more noise at the top of the first track on each side, I'm sure this has to do with the records rubbing against the jacket outside the crushed sleeves...

Ah that’s rotten! I can’t say I haven‘t had a few warped records from VMP, but I’ve only had to request one replacement because it was really bad and that was Buena Vista Social Club.
I bought a flattener so warps don't bother me much, I also have a screw down clamp. With Buena Vista I had repeated pops and no fill on both copies. Waiting for a third.

Ah very good! My BVSC record one was fine and the second was non fill and warps. I’m waiting for my copy to arrive too.
Yeah same here, both copies I think disc one was a poppy mess. Disc 2 was okay. And I KNOW that master is flawless (the original Grundman at least) so I knew it had to be a pressing thing rather than a dodgy master.

Well I will say, after a second and third rinse WMD sounds much better. The little tics are still there but they are much quieter. So that gives me some hope, it still has a weird wavy warp that's probably the main reason for these tics, but on the whole it sounds better. So that's good. The less discs I need replaced the better...

@HiFi Guy I bought 4 bottles of your Chisto stuff. Looking forward to trying it out. No more Okki Nokki alcohol for me...

That's the spirit. More posts like this!

Be careful with a flattener and QRP pressings. I have had bad luck with their vinyl formulations (both black and color) and a vinyl flat. Any time I’ve tried to flatten a QRP record in the last 2-3 years I am left with a wooshing background noise. If I get a warped QRP now, which is more often than it should be, then I just immediately request an exchange.

Yikes. Well, I have a Furutech but I haven't yet tried to flatten a QRP. Might be the same outcome as the vinyl flat. In the case of this box set I won't be settling for a warped disc, even with my flattener. I paid enough money I shouldn't have to leave it to chance that I'm able to flatten the disc myself. But thanks for the heads up.
