Vinyl Me Please Anthology

I got a shipping notice but no tracking number so I am wondering it has shipped or not, I see a label created in Informed Delivery which makes me think I got the email because they printed the label and I am supposed to be in the last group since I live 50-60 miles away

Please, share.
To be completely fair, his other question about what Don's music library looks like was good. This one was just horrible, in my opinion. First, the question contains more of his personal biography than an actual question and second because the question of will they be reissuing the Rare Grooves series is nonsensical for two reasons: it was just a name of a reissue campaign itself, so would be like 20 years from now someone saying "I loved those Tone Poet records, will you be reissuing those?" and because many of those records in the series have been reissued recently and even more of them are coming as part of Blue Note's overall 80th Anniversary reissue campaigns.

Here is the question plus bonus screen grab of Don looking around for a lifeline after an extended pause where he clearly and understandably didn't know how to respond.

I Finally made it over! Been on vacation in the Smokie’s for a week plus. Then we got hit by 5 tornadoes in Dayton on Memorial Day, get to work Tuesday with no power so been struggling with that. Post office finally delivered my anthology on Wednesday after holding it 3 days longer than we asked so just now unwinding with Dexter Calling. Luckily it’s still in perfect condition and sounds fantastic.

I've started keeping a score card as I listen to Blue Note albums. Here's four I checked out today:

always something there to remind me - stanley turrentine (6)
say it loud! - lou donaldson (4)
collision in black - blue mitchell (8)
elegant soul - gene harris and his the three sounds (8)

I also learned today about Dick "Slyde" Hyde who played with Count Basie, Herbie Hancock, Frank Sinatra, Jaco Pastorius, Steely Dan, Earth, Wind & Fire, The Beach Boys, Tom Waits, Carole King, Madonna, and Donna Summer (among others).

Got my shipping notice today too. Before I started heavily researching stuff, I thought I was going to dig Schizophrenia more just based on the title, but since finding out Grant Green played on Natural Soul might be more excited about that. Resonance Records last year released two Grant Green albums that are worth picking up.

not saying you should move this over/continue this over to the below since the Anthology got you started on this but we have a dedicated thread for general Blue Note stuff (I checked and you hadn't commented in there so I am not sure you know about it)

Well, I'm sorry to anyone who ordered and was looking forward to this, but I guess it's nice for me to know I'm not going to care if they announce, like, an Arts & Crafts or Constellation Records anthology.

An arts and crafts anthology would be beautiful. Hopefully more labels will just do it themselves and not rely on "clubs" to reach out

I hope labels see this model and decide to do it themselves as well. Though I suspect that VMP did it to show how to do it and perhaps be gobbled up by one of the major conglomerates like Universal.

The only thing that gives me hope that labels would want to keep it to themselves is the fact that one company has tried to promote 'exclusives', and while, yes, majority have been successful, there have been more than enough occasions where setbacks on various other projects have led to major backlash from portions of the music community. Now do those labels care about what portion is offended is up in the air, but I want to believe that having control of your own product means more than selling off to someone like a 'universal'.

small already do things like this and large labels just put together boxsets, VMP isn't really being novel in this regard, just slightly different

That's true, it is just a different avenue of purchasing at the end of the day. While VMP usually kept their novelty being in the realm of colored records/listening notes/stencil art/etc there is nothing stoping those smaller labels from doing it themselves. At the end of the day every company has to ask themselves if the resources are there to do these type of things in house or outsource to those other types of companies. I just want to believe that what these labels have to offer is more than outsourcing to some company who hired/reached out to others to create those listening notes/stencil arts, etc. and instead show us what they have from those moments in time when the record was created. Not trying to say that what VMP offers is shit as I do personally enjoy reading the liner notes VMP has to offer for the most part and have several of the artworks from the ROTM's hanging around (that weezer artwork was phenomenal) .

Got a nice fat check today and this is the first thing I did:

Someone talk me down before I do more damage.

Edit: I posted this to the wrong thread. Reposted to Blue Note thread. I can't explicitly say that this is due to having smoked a somewhat illicit substance, but I also can't say that possibility should be ruled out.
