Vinyl Me Please Classics

ngl that sounds like the sort of album I'd totally dig. I'll need to check it out on the youtubes.

Listening to this now and it's cheesy as hell lmao I love you Oliver Nelson.

I still kind of like it but if it ends up being Monk's Blues it will definitely be another case of "You could pick any album from this jazz legend's catalogue and THAT'S the one you're going with?!"

Edit -- Reflections is actually legit really good.

I think it’s a Monk album, but it would have to be a huge get for me to even consider getting it. I really don’t want a second tier Monk album even though everything he did is worth at least a listen. I’m thinking something like “Plays Duke Ellington”, “5 By Monk By 5” or maybe “Criss-Cross”?
I would actually be in for Criss Cross, but yeah I would be frustrated if they chose one of his lesser albums. Despite the sales pitch, there is often a reason why many of these albums were lost to time. For every actual buried treasure, there are 5 albums that should stay buried.

for these prices

just buy a tone poet or AP or that new acoustic sounds series

What is the new Acoustic Sound series. I searched but didn't find anything that I thought fit. I did notice that Dexter Calling got the 45 treatment for AS. My guess is that people who buy this one won't need to replace the cover.

acoustic sounds is reissuing some verve, impulse, and others in AAA on their website for about 35 bucks...

including a love supreme, ballads, pastel blues, getz and gilberto, and duke ellington meets oscar peterson

Thanks!

this will legit satisfy most of classics for half a year

as well tone poets is always growing and AP has a lot of classic jazz

Thanks!

There are preorders up at a lot of places for these and Amazon has had some of the titles for as low as $20 on pre-order.

I couldn't tell if the amazon titles were the same AP titles.

Edit: Looking harder, I think that you're right. I just didn't see any of the stuff about the new mastering, etc.

Just see if the preorder dates line up and that's how you know you have the right copies. Also they are technically not official Analogue Productions albums but I bet the quality is similar. They are being billed as Acoustic Sounds presents.

Between the Blue Note reissues, Acoustic Sounds series and others, you can do really well for $33-$40 and get really high quality reissues of albums you actually want instead of mystery albums that are "overlooked"
This is 100% how I feel.
It's like the comment on Reddit re: Money Talks; sure it sounds amazing but the music is disappointing, this is the kind of album I expect to find in the dollar bin. (paraphrased)

It’s been the case for a lot of this year’s classics albums. Sahara is cool but Errol, Patrice, King and BarKays were all just really cheap albums that didn’t need the remaster treatment IMO. I know people liked all/some of those but...
