Not a bad idea. Only potential concern is everyone being able to get some of these releases at a decent price. APs can be a bit tricky to get at cost, especially since they often sell out. A lot of stuff sells out kinda quickly too. But there would still be quite a few options. There are so many great audiophile type labels that do AAA reissues with awesome packaging (shout out to Sam Records!!!) and would be great to introduce people to.maybe you all should have an AP of the month... there was a thought of the N+G ROTMs having a hip hop addition (basically adding a "what we think should replace R&HH this month")... and maybe for you all leaving classics you can do an audiophile ROTM series
maybe there should be a special thread just for audiophile releases so you all can preorder and get as many copies of AP/Sam records/Tone Poets you can get while availableNot a bad idea. Although I agree that Monk's Blues isn't his best, I would stay clear of ratings especially when it comes to jazz. I love the old downbeat reviews for this purpose, its fun to go through them and find classic, now legendary albums with poor reviewsalso fucking getting monks blues with its fucking 1 star on the rolling stone jazz list and NO listing on the penguin guide
Those downbeat jazz reviews are hilarious sometimes. You'll see some albums that are now known as classics just completely blasted by reviews haha.Although I agree that Monk's Blues isn't his best, I would stay clear of ratings especially when it comes to jazz. Monk had a very strange career. He dealt a lot with labels trying to make him "popular" and ignoring his eccentric style of playhing. Monk's Blues came about after he made the Thelonious Monk Orchestra at Town Hall album which is pretty great. They decided to try to bring that into the studio and it was just really poorly conceived overall. I believe it was his last studio album.i kinda wanna see an example just to laugh at
but related to the negative opinion on monks blues....
how did monk and or his estate try to defend it
Ask and you shall receive. As it happens I have a copy of the Down Beat Jazz Record Review Vol 3 (covering 1958) sitting next to me. I opened at a random page and landed on Sonny Clark. Just for context, Clark records are highly sought after and tend to sell for £400+ (some copies have even gone for over £1000). Downbeat certainly didn't think it was worth the hype though....2.5 stars each.i kinda wanna see an example just to laugh at

I would actually be in for Criss Cross, but yeah I would be frustrated if they chose one of his lesser albums. Despite the sales pitch, there is often a reason why many of these albums were lost to time. For every actual buried treasure, there are 5 albums that should stay buried.
Joe Pass’ For Django is getting the Tone Poet treatment soon by the way! Alyer has had a lot of AAA reissues lately and so I think Callier got some Speakers Corner reissues too. But I agree there’s so much good under appreciated music out there. VMP seems either afraid to do it or unaware that that music exists. There are AAA versions of Criss Cross available on ORG and Pure Pleasure. I hate when the audiophile companies reissue the same titles! I'd like to see VMP do a classic that hasn't been reissued to death. And, if they're looking for overlooked classics, they should consider reissuing stuff by Sam Rivers, Duke Pearson, Albert Ayler, Eddie Harris, Milton Nascimento, Gilberto Gil, Return to Forever, Caetano Veloso, Djavan, Joe Pass, Edu Lobo, Don Ellis, George Russell, Terry Callier, The Move, Pharoah Sanders, Charlie Rich, Badfinger, Shakti, The O'Jays, and other artists whose work has mostly not been reissued AAA (if it has been reissued at all!)
I have that AAA ORG and it's great. And that record was available for about 8 dollars for a LONG time from the now defunct InSound. Total steal. There are AAA versions of Criss Cross available on ORG and Pure Pleasure. I hate when the audiophile companies reissue the same titles! I thought the new Third Man pressing of New Grass was AAA but I may be mistaken! What are the Ayler AAA reissues? The only one I'm aware of is Vibrations on ORG and I don't know if that's actually AAA as a number of ORG's more recent titles are not.
