Vinyl Me Please Classics

I don't see anyone taking issue with Let It Be, Imagine, All Things Must Pass, or any Beatles-related Phil Spector production so I think that's overblown. Also cancel culture nowadays has gotten pretty ridiculous.
He doesn't get any money from those. Not wanting to give murders and abusers money is not a new phenomenon. Neither is brands associating themselves with said people having to weigh risking tarnishing their reputations.

That money talks would have been a better choice!

I think Patrice Rushen, Albert King, and The Bar-Kays have been three terrible picks for three different reasons this year and are among the worst picks in the series.

Rushen isn't a bad album per se, but it is pretty dated, doesn't fit the Classics parameters, and didn't need a deluxe reissue version.

Albert King is 100 percent a Classics artist. And a great example of an artist that most people only know for one album (Born Under A Bad Sign) and by reputation. You could have literally picked any Albert King album for this sub and they picked a covers album. I get that the performance is fine on it, but it does a disservice to the man's art to pick a throwaway album as his representative release in this series.

The Bar-Kays is an outtake album with one great song (and not even the most renowned version of it despite appearing twice) and a bunch of filler. Once again, I could have seen the case for most of their other albums. Money Talks was a money grab from Stax and doesn't tell a story about the band other than label fanboy-ism.
Speaking of Born Under a Bad Sign am I the only one that was introduced to that song by Homer singing it on the Simpsons Sing the Blues Album?

I'm afraid all these defenses do not elevate the Elvis cover album into the top tier. It remains a disappointing choice, even though it is a fun record to spin a few times.

I think most would be in agreement this wasn't a good choice. I don't mind them reissuing cover albums but there would have to be something significant about it to be worthwhile, this one is just ok.

The way I look at it is that although it's an album I like and a fun listen, there are SOOO MANY other albums that could have been released that would have been better picks. I probably would have purchased this if I saw it in my local and enjoyed it. So many better choices. Not harping on the album itself, but the other albums that weren't picked.

Correct. And I get that much of the genre of blues/jazz is covers, but they're not "covers" albums. This album's theme is Albert King covers Elvis. That is it. There's nothing deeper than that. In no way is this on the same tier as Green Onions or Born Under A Bad Sign. It's a fun record, but despite that it is also no more than a one-off listen in mine and many other's opinions.

I don't get how anyone can love Green Onions or Born Under A Bad Sign and not think the King record was an outstanding release...and if you don't love those first two albums you probably aren't subbing to VMP Classics.
You don’t understand how ANYONE could love two of the most critically lauded albums of that era but not love the King record? I personally enjoy the King record but let’s not confuse it with some all timers. It’s more novelty than essential.

No, I'm saying, if you love those albums you should like this one because it's similar and has a lot of the same sound that make those great.
