Vinyl Me Please Classics

Got Willie Bobo and Jorge Ben last night. Bobo is a fun listen (and I mean that in only a very slightly derogatory way) and sounded really good. Mine had a factory defect "scribble" scratch so I put in for a replacement. I agree with others here that the choice of this particular record makes little sense considering how many other/better latin-jazz records there are, even on Verve alone! But anyway, it got me to listen to something that I never would have picked up otherwise.

Jorge Ben sounds great too.
 
Bobo should be landing here within a few hours. Even though I thought I cancelled Classics for this month, excited for the first spin with it.

Disclaimer: I tried the album multiple times on streaming and never made it all the way through. Here’s to hoping a decent pressed copy of this album will change that. 🤞

This may be old news but I just noticed on reddit that Storf said Classics will continue to be AAA at least through November, and then the goal is to keep that going forever
 
Yeah, Classics will always be AAA from now on unless they run into an exception, which probably will only be every once in a while (like if they wanna put out some more from the Chess catalog for instance — which I understand the master tapes were all lost in that big fire Universal)
 
So Willie Bobo showed up with some corner damage, along with Method Man, and I’m assuming VMP won’t replace them with their new strict policies.

Other than that, sounds fine. Although I still wish they would have done another album. But I’m definitely reconsidering my ongoing VMP subscription if bad shit is going to occur every month.
 
So this sounds better than a Spotify stream, but now my one complaint is some of these tunes are just too damn short. 3:15 is the longest cut on the album.

Where are the people defending the short vs long song as better now? Some of these songs could have been killer with some extended solos. By the time I get into some of these songs they’re already over. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♂️

Seems like a “jazz” album for people who don’t like jazz.

Also, anyone know if VMP will offer some credit for bent corners? I mean, I did pay $29 for Tical..

Give em hell. That looks like my last package. They initially said “these things happen” I told them I was going to return them at my own experience, then file a claim through PayPal, then cancel my subscription, I told them they packaged the albums poorly and I paid for NM/NM and the jacket IS PART OF THE ALBUM. After, that they agreed to send me new albums.
