There was no old man involved. Miller was 30 when they recorded it, the rest where students as well. I think they won a student jazz competition and earned the recording.It's not even substandard
It's just they claimed free jazz when at most it was an old man doing eastern jazz music
I did not particularly enjoy the record and did not find it a good classics pick but a novelty. But I found the criticism aimed at lloyd miller when it was chosen as rotm a little unfair. It was an amateur project and not supposed to be more.There was also the accusation of appropriation in the air, which seems unfair looking at millers life, because i see him more as someone who was interested and immersed himself into middle eastern culture and tried to teach people about it.
