Jimmy Scott appears in Twin Peaks Fire Walk With Me where his androgynous voice mixes with the unsettling mood. I had a cd of Falling In Love and will still be a member when this is the classics pick so I’ll definitely grab this one.

Oh the irony! After 9 months away from VMP, I was considering reupping for Abdul-Malik and Frissell and CCR, and then realized that I can't because I'm in Canada. It was a good run, but I guess I'll spend my money elsewhere.

Now that I am on the outside looking in from a distance, what is coming is a case of 'good from far but far from good'.

Being an international VMP exile, it's now a case of looking at stuff and realizing that stuff like Abdul-Malik and Gus Cannon are really not much more than curiosities that I would force myself to listen through once and then would occupy space that could be much better employed.

The original title of "Falling in Love is Wonderful; Getting Away With Murder is Sublime" didn't have the same ring to it, so the label did it's best to capture that feeling with the cover art.

This Ahmed Abdul-Malik is pretty stunning. Mine is dead quiet and flat. One of the better GZ pressings I’ve had in awhile
