Vinyl Me Please Essentials

I've been more content with VMP now that I'm not tempted by store exclusives due to price. I did grab The Comet is Coming from the re stock though. That was my first store purchase that wasn't a swap in like 5 months.

my problem is that I haven’t liked whole tranches of their ROTM streams this year, I increasingly feel alienated by their staff and I am majorly turned off by the FOMO culture. QOTSA/Aretha/Something else good and riding off into the sunset would suit me down to the ground.

I agree except for Jorge Ben and Al Green. Did you really not like those?!

But yeah it was too long of a stretch to only have 2 albums (across all 3 tracks) that I care about and still be subbed each month. I quit after my July shipment but then re-subbed for October just to catch up on the last 3 classics (mostly because of positive reviews on here) and my shipment of QOTSA, Brubeck, and Flaming Lips "At War with the Mystics" should be arriving today. After that, I'll probably want Aretha, but I feel like #30 of the classics might be a good stopping point for me, but we'll see. I'm starting to run out of space in my tiny apartment and I feel like I have enough variety now in my collection to slow down and spend more time enjoying what I've already paid for.

Al Green was my last before I left and yes I did like it. No I didn’t like Jorge Ben.

I’ve never hugely been a fan of straight funk. It and reggae are kinda two that I get why other people like them but they don’t do much for me, especially sat on my sofa listening to them. I do like when bits of funkiness cross fertilise into other genres.

Side note: I always wonder what order VMP uses for shipping out records, must be oldest members to newest. I always get my shipment late in the 2nd week or in the 3rd week of the month. Every month I check ROTM/swaps then I forget I even have a VMP membership by the time the package gets here lol.
