Vinyl Me Please Essentials

Still are giving it away on discogs. Admittedly, the pressing wasn't great and it was on black vinyl which didn't differentiate itself from the standard press (outside of an 8 page booklet). Just an all around not great showing from VMP, but I do agree that the music is great.

Geez. There's literally a copy on there for $1. Can't say I'm not tempted by it lol. Sad I missed the early days of VMP.

I've been tempted to pick up the European pressing...it's cheap and probably a lot better than the US crap Rainbo pressing (So glad they are no longer making records)

VMP almost didn't survive after this one...a lot of members bailed as it was a crap pressing of a record that was a regular retail release.

That bad? Geez. Guess they didn't have the reputation needed to keep themselves afloat. Wish I could comb through those forum archives...

I'll have to look back at the releases before it, but I remember it being pretty bad there for a while...this was before I was a member, but remember some comments made in the Hoffman forum.

Besides J Dilla's Donuts and maybe the FJM, it was a pretty bad stretch of albums no one really liked/wanted/already had.

Youth Lagoon
Father John Misty
J Dilla
Menomena
Torres
Hot Chip

The Upsetters, Wilco and Black Sabbath got some people back - but even then it was just repressings...nothing real special, but they seemed to regain some clout with those releases.

Them getting the Sabbath release is what got me to join...they seemed to hit their stride in the months after - with The Fugees, Beck, Nina Simone...I think they learned not to bunch up those indie bands, as they just weren't as popular at the time.

all this QOTSA talk reminded me that my local store gave me a double sided 24" x 18" print when ...Like Clockwork was released. It's been rolled up in a tube for years.

How did the Caribou records themselves turn out? Decent amount of red in there or nah?

I was a little disappointed actually. The red splatter is pretty minimal so it’s mostly a banana yellow color. The sleeve is nice but there’s nothing in it basically.

But then I spun it. I didn’t realize it’s a 45. It sounds fantastic! And it’s such a good album.

Hoping to swap for it in some weeks, so thanks for the reply.
The red does look sparse in the mock-up so not entirely surprising.

I failed with the swap this month and I didn’t think I’d miss out, hopefully it comes up for swaps. If it does it’ll sell out, I had to go for it, one of my favorite electronic albums and it def still holds up.

I also kinda wanted a nice build up album to add to the Ghostly anticipation.
