Vinyl Me Please Essentials

I use a focusrite and audacity and then izotope. Even in the best circumstances it’s a PITA. If the music is made available digitally that is a far better path. I rip things that are not otherwise available outside of vinyl.
What's izotope for?

This is probably a lot better than my ghetto setup lol

listening to the john cale remix (note that i haven't heard the original mix so i dunno if this is a million times better or not and that the track placement on the deluxe edition puts the cale mix in a different order than the original album) on streaming and the 10 minute cult shit of we will fall is a real mood killer... its an alright garage rock album but i dunno if i'd really want to own it... i kinda feel bad for possibly swapping it because i swapped last time, VMP has done a not great job on the ROTM choices this month (all of them just being OK)... and i'm on my last legs so i could end up cancelling my whole subscription next month

probably just not the best choice for a stooges album seeing as their next 2 albums are the real big deal LPs for people.. an exclusive of them would be nice

First Stooges album is a real big deal for people too Dukey. So ahead of its time. I’d love it to be this, but what with the pound vs dollar I can’t see myself signing up for it. Real great album. 1969, I Wanna Be Your Dog, Real Cool Time, No Fun... they might not startle the same way they did but they all über classic

While a vinyl copy of the Cale mix would be interesting to have on vinyl, it was rejected by both the band and the label for a reason. The final version that they released kicks the Cale mix to the street and curbstomps it. If it is the ROTM I will grab it, but I doubt I would play it very much other than if they used the alternate sequencing from the 2005 cd reissue.

I would prefer the alternate version of Fun House that Rhino also put out in 2005

Whether it is or not, do yourself a favour and get a copy of the 1st album. I would hate for the Cale mix be anyones introduction to this album.

I know the album well! I have a copy in cd somewhere. Do you think it will be both versions or just the Cale? I’ve never heard the Cale version.

I would be shocked if they did either of the first 2 Stooges records as that would be a pretty huge get for them but what do I know. I didn't think QotSA would happen and it did.

I actually think Funhouse is more likely since it is the 50th anniversary of it. Though might be tied into a broader reissue campaign the label since there are a bunch of Iggy re-issues happening this year as well (The Idiot and Lust for Life expanded editions + the Bowie years boxset).

You can stream the Cale version on Spotify and Apple. Nothing wrong with it, just a bit thin in my opinion. If it is either the s/t or Funhouse, I would think it would only be the unreleased version with some sort of alternative album art.

personally i kinda prefer the cale remix because its a lot rougher and less cleaned up.. it feels more protopunk than garage rock... i was surprised by the lack of real loud shit in the original mix and the feeling of it being softer and less harsh... the cale version of "i wanna be your dog" felt much harder and more in your face

Funny I find the opposite. I find the Cale mix feels like a band running through their set for the first time in the studio, a bit unsure of themselves. But also probably because I have been listening to the original probably 30yrs before I heard the Cale version.

That said I remember the Cale mix was interesting as most of the songs were significantly shorter and they were sequenced in a different order. Maybe heard in isolation from the original might make a difference
