I was actually really into the music we had this club in Philly that was down a gross alley but inside it was this really beautiful swing club . Saw squirrel nut, BBVD, Dem Brooklyn Bums, Royal Crown Review and a bunch others .My wife tried to get me to learn to swing dance and I was so awful that I got frustrated and stopped listening to it.You bet your Squirrel Nut Zipper we did!
I was in Junior High school at the time but I really enjoyed the movie Swingers and learned swing dancing during PE class.I was actually really into the music we had this club in Philly that was down a gross alley but inside it was this really beautiful swing club . I saw Big Bad Voodoo Daddy in Toronto the year Swingers came out, the stand up bass player came over after the show and hit on my sister and Jon Favreau was there and full on couples swing dancing in front of the stage with a woman who looked exactly like but wasn't Heather Graham.I was in Junior High school at the time but I really enjoyed the movie Swingers and learned swing dancing during PE class.

If you could bottle the entire swing phase zeitgeist and serve it in a martini glass, that night was basically a bathtub sized serving. In a Zoot suit. With 5000 olives.
This is quite charming.Bobby Olives
It might’ve been longer than a summer for me.Did anyone else briefly wander from ska to the swing craze for that one summer?
This made me LOLOLDid anyone else briefly wander from ska to the swing craze for that one summer?
I had never thought of that but yeah. EWWW.
I cultivated my friendships in high school based on whether they or not they liked John Mayer.
I heard they were originally a ska band then jumped to swing during the craze, one time the lead singer played in a diaper and poured chocolate syrup on himself . And yeah I also just put two and two together on that name.
Their wiki page describes some pretty wild elements in their early shows.I heard they were originally a ska band then jumped to swing during the craze, one time the lead singer played in a diaper and poured chocolate syrup on himself . And yeah I also just put two and two together on that name.
Seriously, all the rich kids that would bully us in high school were OBSESSED with this guy. Liking him was a sign that you were a part of the in-crowd. Hearing those old songs makes me viscerally ill.
I think it’s hard for people to understand that didn’t go [through the same shit you did].
