Vinyl Me Please Essentials

Thanks for the recommendations! I’m definitely keen to get introduced to more great mashups as I haven’t delved quite much into the genre/style! Fugazi + Fela Kuti sounds really cool!

Girl Talk sounds great! I’m definitely going to check him out from the description you’ve provided!

I did find Sadevillain stale and just very foreseeable, but I do admit that the music overall was quite pleasant to the ear. I just didn’t get much satisfaction out of it!

Thanks again for telling me about Girl Talk 🤝

I haven't listened to Girl Talk for a few years, but if you liked Girl Talk All Day, they made a movie to the mix, Girl Walk. It's great fun.

i remember watching that when it came out and it would've been better, IMO, as a montage of parts of the album. In its entirety, it became long in the tooth. It also suffered from this sort of hipster "Hey, look at me, I'm so unique dancing next to all you squares" attitude. It's like, yes, you certainly stand out dancing like a maniac midday day in NYC while people go about their business. All-in-all it was just a bit long and a few semi-cringe moments, but, nevertheless, a solid endeavor to film.

To recap ...

U2 are brilliant, especially live and they have at least 2 classic albums in The Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby

Never mind and This Is It are great albums

Sade will be forever associated with Gary Davis and 80s cocktail music in the U.K. and her albums are available for £3 a plenty in U.K. record fairs

I have spoken

This is the best thing U2 ever did

I mean something doesn’t have to get your dick up to be good, we’re all a bit deeper than that I’d hope.
Yeah, of course! I think I just don’t know the best way to explain why I dislike someone’s music! Those things just came to mind, and yeah...I just couldn’t connect with The National’s music!

There are definitely non-sexy songs I love, like Tracy Chapman’s Fast Car, Townes Van Zandt’s Waitin Around to Die, Death Grips’ Hustle Bones and OutKast’s Gasoline Dreams. Like most of the music I enjoy doesn’t have sex appeal! I think using the word ‘unattractive’ just isn’t the best word to use when stating why you dislike a particular song/artist/band!

Says the guy who owns more U2 than I do. 😍🤩🥳

This is true, I saw them live, that’s their strength really, and bought most of it afterwards, I’m crazy for sure. Also I’m in Ireland lol. Tbh it gets very little platter time and 9/10 if it does it’s War, their best by a billion miles, before Eno and the boring big music. I’d actually honestly say 1980-1990, 1990-2000, War and maybe the Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby is the maximum of what one needs.

My exposure to Sade was on the “smooth jazz” radio station my mom made us listen to in the car when we were stuck in traffic as she drove us home from school. So Sade is in the same category as Enya and Kenny G for me. And when I’m in the mood, I can enjoy any of those artists, but I’m not going to NEED them in my collection.

Coincidentally they were playing Sade in the supermarket when I was doing my shop earlier. Sort of hammered home the usual Sade listening locations to me. Big chain stores, lifts (elevators to some), my grandma's house... and the listening rooms of the N+G faithful

I don't think I can't downvote this more. No more Gav-la's for you, ever.

U2 sucks ass.

Sade is awesome.

I have spoken.

My bday song is Maneater lol

and to add to the afternoon delight. I first heard of this song while I watching PCU. Anyone remember this movie? So good. Can’t find a great clip but here’s the jist
Loved that movie. It was right in my era (college era) and was perfect

But I like Nevermind so this does not fit my narrow-minded narrative 🤔 honestly tho I think I prefer the other two Nirvana albums to it? hard to say, I'd have to listen again... haven't sat down to listen to any of the Nirvana albums all the way through in many years now that I think about it 😮

Oh, you're in for a treat.. there's more than three Nirvana albums.
