Vinyl Me Please Essentials

i've meet many men & woman who come from many different backgrounds who love Sade.i think Sade's music speaks to so many different types of people because it speaks the truths of the human condition.
If there had been one more 'inventively whacking someone to an 80's track with associated dialogue' in American Psycho then that line to a Sade tune would have surely been in the running 😂

Go on Spotify, type in ‘Sade crime’ and then play the song ‘Is It a Crime’! Then fast forward to 3:08 and there you have it - it’s the dancing piano melody MF DOOM sampled for his classic track Kon Karne! It’s so exquisite, fancy and delicate ! And listen MF DOOM even samples the “My Love Is” vocals from that same song too! Ugh, it’s so good! 👌

Sade is so freaking good! I’m so spoilt! 😭😭😭

Even though your opinion on the National is trash, you'd probably like this:

I don't think I've listened to Sade. I don't think I would much care for it, based on the descriptions I've seen of the music on here both positive and negative.

And before you say anything else, yes I know Sade's music is a) romantic and b) sexy.
Definitely have a feeling you wouldn’t like Sade Gap! Especially after you not being too much of a fan of Jessie Ware’s What’s You Pleasure?! I think you would find Sade’s music way too guarded, safe and harmless if you know what I mean!

Don’t forget about how luxurious, romantic and sexy the music is too! 🥀😈🕯😈💎
tho Sade Adu exudes elegance and class and is the epitome of it she sings many songs of desolate people in destitute situations.while i know their is snobbish rich folk some where on their yacht having a dinner party who listen to Sade her music never conjures thoughts of luxury for me.now enough with me using all these big words lol.

I’m going to get so much shit for this, but I think it’s a cheap, fan project, sounding project! Literally was talking about this yesterday with @BazookaTooth !

He was like “Sadevillain is brilliant” and I was like ‘it’s overrated!’ 😅😅😅

‘Sade and Madvillain’s music is mystical, true to their aesthetic and very unique, but I think this project isn’t unique and takes away from both of them!

I think when MF DOOM samples “Kiss Of Life” on the track Doomsday, it was executed perfectly! The sample is spot on and MF DOOM’s effortless, easy-going flow is amazing!

And you what’s even more impressive, the ‘Is It a Crime?’ sample on MF DOOM’s Kon Karne! That sade sample is absolutely stunning! DOOM’s reflective, reminiscent tone with that tinkling, dancing, swaying piano loop is beautiful!’

Because of those samples, Sadevillain occurred and unfortunately Sadevillain sounds like a fan project; cheap, non-innovative and unimpressive compared to how DOOM samples. Yes, the music is pretty enjoyable because you’re putting together two amazing artists, but the project is not innovative enough for me and falls flat.

Sadevillain is overrated AF in my opinion. Full stop! Like it doesn’t have the finesse of MF DOOM or Sade! 👎👎👎

Do you, in general, have a distaste for mashups or especially owing to this one?

Edit: I don't want you to be a liar in your first sentence so.... :poop: :poop: :poop: :poop: :poop: :poop: :poop: :poop: :poop: :poop: :poop:

Some mashups can be excellent, like the indulgent, sexy and dreamy Tame Impala x Justin Timberlake - The Less I Know The Better/Sexyback mashup! 😍😍😍

But yeah, in general, I’m not a fan of most mashups because most of them don’t have that WOW factor for me! Like the Justin Timberlake x Tame Impala works so well too because it’s such a surprise! A bit like the Britney Spears x Kanye West - Toxic/Power mashup! 😍😍😍

For me, that’s like the art of mashups, when it’s done so innovatively, like two completely different songs you wouldn’t think would match, end up going together so well! 💯

Sadevillain is too predictable and takes away from both artists about what’s so great about them unfortunately in my opinion! 🤷‍♂️

I think your description of it as a "fan project" is apt and fair. But that's what they are. I don't think they really ever will rise above the source material - and if it's not great music to begin with, a mashup isn't going to save it. But there are a few I like as an alternative to the originals when the mood strikes....the OG Grey Album, Fugazi, Fela Soul...to name a few off the top of my head.

I think one of the best to do it and rise beyond the derivation that can weigh down mashups is Girl Talk. I think there are a few possible reasons: a) early days as a glitch artist helped to later create something distinct and "musical" in its own right, b) Girl Talk doesn't just do a two artist thing so it doesn't get stale, c) he often juggles multiple artists' samples at a time in a given track/moment

Thanks for the recommendations! I’m definitely keen to get introduced to more great mashups as I haven’t delved quite much into the genre/style! Fugazi + Fela Kuti sounds really cool!

Girl Talk sounds great! I’m definitely going to check him out from the description you’ve provided!

I did find Sadevillain stale and just very foreseeable, but I do admit that the music overall was quite pleasant to the ear. I just didn’t get much satisfaction out of it!

Thanks again for telling me about Girl Talk 🤝

Fela Soul was talked about here a bit way back when....that's actually how I found out about it. You can download it straight from Amerigo Gazaway's bandcamp.

The farther back in GT's discog you go the more straight up glitch it's gonna be. The last two albums - Feed the Animals & All Day - are very fun albums. Tons of those tracks get on my workout mixes.

Give it a shot. A lot of her music is pretty widely critically acclaimed, certainly seems to be more than Huey Lewis is. It isn't for me personally, and I don't really get it, but the judgement against her here seems a bit extreme.

I’m listening to Feed The Animals and it’s overwhelming to Baby Monster! I can’t handle it 🙈

It’s super fun, and definitely is great workout music because it’s always changing the pace and aesthetic seemlessly, but I don’t think I can keep up! 🤪

Like I was listening to the track “No Pause” and loved Missy Elliott spitting bars over that Fatman Scoop track, and then 15 seconds in, I’m like “Bitch, don’t kill my vibe” because it changes and I wanna get into it! 😂😂😂

I did listen to the first track from Girl Talk’s ‘Secret Diary’ and enjoyed the song ‘Let’s Start This Party Right’! I loved the glitchiness and the off kilter, disorientating, distorted catchiness of it all! Like it’s wild! I love it! 😈

I've got Fela Soul (Fela Kuti De La Soul), The Miseducation of Eunice Weymon (Nina Simone and Lauren Hill) and Bizarre Tribe (Tribe Called Quest and Phar Cyde) all on vinyl and they are all fantastic.
