Vinyl Me Please Essentials

Seems a bit surprising that they would do two artists in a row that were already done in the RHH track.
One of the artist is not a rapper though - Erykah Badu. It was an odd choice for VMP to even make Erykah Badu a R&HH ROTM.

One great thing is that the two artists that will be Essential picks in a row is that they are amazing artists! OutKast and Erykah Badu both have incredible discographies and the R&HH ROTM's VMP chose by them two were not in the top 3 albums by either of them!

Like imagine if the two artists in a row that will be Essentials which were previously featured in the R&HH track were Rick Ross and Future, or Da Brat and Salt-N-Pepa! That would be extremely disappointing hahaha

New Amerykah Part One Is probably her best album. What’s not exciting about that?!
New Amerykah is a magnificent album and I’d be very happy with that being the Essentials ROTM, but it’s not as popular as her first two albums!

I still think Baduizm and Mama’s Gun are stronger than New Amerykah Part One, but boy do I absolutely love the J Dilla tribute “Telephone”! Such a beautiful, heavenly, heartfelt song! And I love the song “Honey”! That’s song is such a jam! And mmmm “That Hump” is such a sandy, sweltering, smooth, sensual, subdued song!

I love New Amerykah Part One so much! Let’s hope VMP do an exclusive of it! 🤞

I remember being like 14 years old when New Amerykah came out and was TERRIFIED when that Voodoo interlude thing came on during the second half on the song ‘Twinkle’! It scared me so much, I thought it was like some spiritual, evil, devil! 😂😂😂🙈🙈🙈

Hey Ya is on the list if "songs so overplayed that I never need to hear it again."
It is a very overplayed song. For some weird reason, a song being overplayed doesn't affect my feelings towards it. I still love the song Bad Guy by Billie Eilish even though that was played non stop last year. Even when Bad Guy came on for the 4th time in a day on the radio at work, I was like "yay, love this track"! :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

It got #1 in Australia! But yeah, it wasn’t a #1 hit worldwide, but it did get #1 in the US too. It was overall a big hit worldwide! Hey-Ya is a classic for me! It’s a weird, funky, fusion, timeless song that is just so playful and has so much charisma! 🕺

So, to clarify, you feel "Hey Ya" is an ambitious, weird, incredibly catchy, funky, lively fusion, electrifying and energetic timeless classic that is just a monster of a song that's so playful and charismatic that it'll never be surpassed as an exciting and musically strong masterpiece?

Have they given any details on the mastering or pressing? Is it an entire new remaster or are they using one of the bazillion versions already out there (like the MOV)?

Yaaaaaaas! Just listen to the song! Those acoustic guitars on that song were inspired by The Smiths! Absolutely genius! Hey Ya is the definition of a song that has that ‘complex simplicity’ aspect executed flawlessly! It really is a monster of a track - it’s a sweaty, moshpit banger that is just endlessly fun! 🌈

Hey Ya! is everything!!! 😍♥️🎯🔥🔥🔥

The guitar part on the song is "simple simplicity", there's nothing complex or genius about it. I don't doubt that he was inspired by The Smiths but that's like anyone adding a minor chord to a progression saying they were inspired by The Smiths. I've heard the song (a lot) and it's a great song but to describe the acoustic guitar part as "absolute genius" is an extreme exaggeration at best.

I agree, Miss Jackson is a better song! Prefer that song more for sure! Stankonia is just 🔥🔥🔥

So Hey Ya! is your greatest single of the last 20 years. Unimpeachably perfect. You can’t imagine anything ever being better than it as a single.

BUT

A single from the same act that came out 3 years before it, which is also in the last 20 years, is better than it?

I don't disagree with your assessment of the song but I'll point out that sometimes doing the simple thing is a stroke of genius that no one expects. Many fantastic songs have been ruined by too much guilding the lily and too many chefs. Sometimes the genius thing is "let's be really minimal". Look at Neil Young's Cinnamon Girl guitar solo. All that said, I do agree that in this case, the acoustic guitar is just a good idea well executed not a stroke of unexpected genius.

Yes, but you need to take into account the @NathanRicaud Everything Is Awesome! Conversion Rate. So, a real-world simple guitar progression, lead line, synth stab, what-have-you is genius. When encountered with a real-world genius musical piece his face literally melts off (ok, real world it is a figurative face melt but, again, gotta convert - I'm working on an app to make it easier 'cause right now it takes some complicated formulas).

It's sort of like how a Cleveland "8" is an NYC or L.A. "4". In summation, his musical tastes are the geographical equivalent of the United States' Midwest.
