Vinyl Me Please Essentials

Just listened to The Stooges for the first time in my headphone listening set up and wow, it really sounds great. I know I’m like 6 months late but this is totally the way I’m going to be listening to it going forward.
i mean the weird trippy we will fall is still very weird but other than that a bunch of fun and definitely sounds like a solid punk album. i like the john cale mix because the mids and treble are amplified to make a feeling of a couple people just casually recording in their basement, like it could be made in maybe a few days and made for less than a thousand dollars

Do we actually have any sort of confirmation that it's Outkast or is this still all wild speculation?
Still wild speculation that it’s OutKast, Erykah Badu & Billie Holiday! That’s what the front-runners are for now, for the next three Essentials ROTM’s!

the last time I guessed in this thread, we got John Mayer, so, in that vein:

october: mandy moore or phoebe bridgers
November: ryan adams, “heartbreaker”
December: Morrissey [source: Ryan Adams: Heartbreaker (Deluxe Reissue)]

I keep thinking it and waiting for someone else to say it haha.
@Joe Mac would love it if we got Heartbreaker for the November Essentials ROTM as that is his favourite album of 2000!!! 😱😱😱

And @Joe Mac is also a huge Morrissey fan! His favourite band from the 80’s was The Smiths! Looks like VMP might deliver the goods to you sloppy Joe! 🥴

😂😂😂

The Birthday Party, PJ Harvey, Tori Amos

Any Nick Cave project back-to-back with PJ Harvey would probably be worth $30/month for me for 3 months, but I'm not sure which PJ Harvey they'd do since those are all scheduled for reissues this year, but I guess maybe they could just do a color variant of "Is This Desire?"

At this point, this is the only combo that could tempt me to re-up for October.

To be honest its the sort of thing i thought they had in their wheelhouse maybe two years ago. Not so sure its their bag now though. I'd absolutely take a variant of the new Ally Pally live album (or Grinderman)/ Is This Desire or Stories/ Little Earthquakes combo though. In fact it would be the best run they've ever done.

Guessing from his remarks about Morrisseys and Ryan Adam's Behavior I don't think @Joe Mac would not be keen on another record from either.
Also in the case of these choices we should just merge this thread with "Your faveis problematic"

I cant see VMP doing Ryan Adams followed by Morrissey ..crickey they might as well throw in R Kelly for the hat trick (and I'm a huge Morrissey and Ryan Adams fan)
Maybe the new sub they are starting isn't pardner me please but douchebag me please. I mean, all a scheme to finally get rid of all that pwr bttn records they have lying around

Yeah @NathanRicaud you really mustn’t think that much of me if you think I want a new Moz or Adams record and would give new money to either artist. I already owned pretty much everything by both and I’m not quite sure what to do with all the Moz solo or Adams stuff that’s already in my collection but I know I’m not giving either the creep or the racist any more money.

I think the combo of a late eve Wind up post arriving to you at 8am doesn’t translate so well 😂

This is the sort of thing that the secondary/ used market is for, imo - one big criticism of it is that it doesn't support the artist. But in cases of "i disapprove of your bullshit", this is a feature, not a bug. Really only works for people who are ok separating the art from the artist (not everyone is willing or able). I personally won't give them money... but gold or Vauxhall and I are still wonderful records with great songs.

I remain consistently gutted about Ryan Adams. In hindsight, having seen him going nuclear at members of his own audiences at numerous points over the years, I suppose it was inevitable that he'd be somehow outed as being a massive wanker but still... gutted.

Yeah likewise, there was always something odd and very unsettlingly weird about him as a person too but I suppose it’s easy to see that in hindsight. Yeah I was gutted too, those first few records meant a lot to me. I’ve listened to them again once or twice since and they’re still good but it’s just not quite the same, there is a connection that’s gone.

I remember reading the Times article on the metro on the way into work and being horrified but not really surprised. I mean this is a guy I've traveled around the Country to watch live on a number of occasions for 20 years and when it all came out I just wasn't surprised.

And I'm the same. Every now and then I wonder if I should put his albums in the loft but never do it. They'll just stay on the shelf on the off chance he throws the emperor into the Death Star's reactor and then I'll start spinning them more often again.
