Vinyl Me Please Essentials

Big Boi being the R&HH ROTM pick for December confirms Stankonia being the October Essentials pick. The clue Storf just gave for the 2010 December R&HH ROTM pick was “this artist was on a R&HH and Essentials ROTM”! Because of that clue, we’ll be getting Stankonia for the October Essentials ROTM!

Also, Erykah Badu’s Mama’s Gun will be the November Essentials pick, and Billie Holiday will be the December Essentials pick! It all lines up perfectly!

But have you imposed big boi on December RHH to prove your October Essentials rather than figuring both out fully 😉

Mmmmm it is all subjectivity in the end! For the year 2000, Like Water For Chocolate wasn’t in my favourite hip-hop albums of the year unfortunately. If we’re talking about Dilla’s best production from that era/year, it goes to Slum Village’s Fantastic Vol. 2!

My five favourite hip-hop albums of 2000 are:

1. OutKast - Stankonia
2. Quasimoto - The Unseen
3. Slum Village - Fantastic Vol. 2
4. Ghostface Killah - Apollo Kids
5. Deltron 3030 - Deltron 3030

Reflection Eternal’s Train of Thought and Nelly’s Country Grammar would have been next on the list.

Still, Like Water For Chocolate is a great album! I love the overall sound of it! It has that alternative neo-soul sound I love!

My top 4 undoubtedly in order is Supreme Clientele, Reflection Eternal, Stankonia, Like Water For Chocolate. 3 & 4 could flip-flop. Number 5 is a toss-up as there's a lot of rap I like from that year. But none of them are on the same level as those 4. Probably Xzibit's Restless.

Ok. I'll take your word for it.
I dont follow the RHH thread and I dont know any of this is confirmed or not.
For all I know its the the same members from this thread imposing their will on that thread to arrive at the same conclusion.

Also, from what I can gather....this:

At this point, I think I'm so buried in conjecture that it might will be more fun to root against Stankonia just to watch this thread burn down on announcement date.

Not that I want to deny anyone a quality re-pressing (see there *I* go making wild speculative assumptions about VMP and what they will do) of one of their favorite albums.
I'm passing til 2021 if this all turns out to be true, so I hope everyone gets what the want...truly.

I just cant follow the logic at this point.

I mean, by this point, with the number & specificity of clues that have come directly from VMP, it's hardly conjecture. I stole this from someone on reddit who paraphrased all the clues given by VMP on twitter, but it pretty much narrows it down to what has been suggested if you only go by these clues.

Essentials:
Oct: Rap, features one-time romantic partner of Nov artist, 2000
Nov: R&B, artist is one-time romantic partner of performer on Oct. album, 2000
Dec: Vocal Jazz artist whom the Nov. artist's first album was often compared to, 1956

Rap & Hip-Hop
Oct: 1996, New Jersey, has made albums with a previously featured HH artist
Nov: 2002, California, Has never been on another HH release
Dec: 2010, Georgia, Has been on an Essentials and a HH release

It’d be so funny if it was neither and that you’ve led everyone down a “Nathan wants this so bad” rabbit hole. So very very funny.

I 100% think this is what is really happening.
We saw this before with the Patty Smith Horses discussion after Storf visited her apartment.... and then it turned out to be Betty Davis, I think.

I kind of agree that Essentials is due for some Rap/HipHop/Soul after Johnny Mayer, Jackie White, Stevie Nicks, Iggy Pop and Carrie Rose. But after all the above, I'm kind of hoping this takes a hard left turn and turns out to be something like:

Oct: Hard Core- Lil' Kim
Nov: Love Like This - Faith Evans
Dec. Mary J. Blige - My Life.

Edit: Clearly the years dont work for this...but something no-one saw coming would be interesting from a board perspective.

It fits all the clues perfectly except that one that Joe mentioned is a stretch. No better guesses have been put forth, so it is the front runner at the moment.

Again, I'll take your word for it.
I have nothing invested in the outcome other missing out on any chaos that ensues if its NOT Stankonia.
Not that I want anyone to be disappointed.

but legit.. i dont think its lady sings the blues but velvet mood..

the no heart for you was trying to tell us one of the was wrong (or fuck storf both are very applicable), and billie holiday had 2 major solo albums that year.. what proof is there that its explicitly lady sings the blues

I'm going to say its just more likely because it has "Strange Fruit" on it which is probs one of her most well known songs and has been sampled across genres
